Bird Watching for an OD Friend*********EDIT
Light But Hearty is one of my OD Favorites and she’s posted a photo of a small red-breasted (and topped) bird with white markings on its wings. At first glance I thought it was one of our Rosy House Finches, but after looking in my book, I decided it wasn’t. What do you think?
I managed to get another three trees in the ground before noon today, but hit solid rock on the fourth and final hole. So, as before, we filled it with water and allowed it to soak through. DH decided it was such a nice day (although the wind had a bite to it) he would stay out in the bit of sunshine at the front edge of his garage. This way he’s in the sun, which is warm, and out of the breeze, which is cold. Such a deal.
And speaking of birds, DH read in this morning’s newspaper that the Turkey Vultures have started to arrive. Every year they migrate and Tehachapi is one of their resting places. I’m sitting here right now, watching two of them soar in circles over our house. There’s a cloud bank rolling in and I think our temperature has dropped a few degrees.
No Turkey Buzzards in this photo, but you can sure see the green of the hills and valley, and that bank of cold coming in from the west. Brrrr. I think I’ll let that fourth hole sit until tomorrow morning!
Be safe, be well and please be happy. Be sure to tell those you love that you love them. We all need to hear those words now and then.
Thanks for the page from your bird identification book. To me it looks like the Common Redpoll drawing on your page BUT this is supposed to be far south of its territory. We do have those lovely Pine Grosbeaks pictured on this page. They are twice the size of the redpolls.

Yes…you are definitely getting spring green. We won’t see that in the hills for another month. However, we are getting there. P.S. I have the Stokes Field Guide to Birds — Western Region.

You bet.

We have turkey buzzards here. A clutch of about 9 are seen about every day near a farmers field close by. I hate to see them circling anywhere near but I know that is the way of nature. Deer are frequently hit by vehicles so the vultures have plenty of “cleaning-up” to do.

RYN: OD is burping a bit and we are getting not only error messages but out entries aren’t showing up. Hugs.

I am unable to post new entries. I have no tool bar or editor.

Sorry I can’t help with the birds; I don’t know anything about bird breeds or whatever they’re called. I just like to see them and hear them singing in the trees. Green, especially spring green, is very good! 🙂
