A Different Kind of Pain
I read ThomasS entry and feel for his pain of loss. My pain, on the other hand, is of the old fashioned "Ow!" type. Truth be told, I took a nasty fall a week ago today and banged myself up pretty good. I had a pressure cut on my left shin that looked kind of bad and it hurt to walk, so I went in to have the good dr. take a look at it. He pronounced it non-serious (which I truly felt before I went in) and told me to quit putting Neosporin on it; to clean it with soap and water and keep it covered with a bandaid. I also knew I had been in the midst of a Fibromyalgia (FM) flare, but hated to admit it. I’m stubborn and I don’t like admitting that I have anything wrong with me physically (a control issue, if you will). He suggested that Prednisone might make things better. I agreed and he offered me pills or a shot — feeling as bad as I did, I opted for the shot (get it over and done with, I always say). I’m hoping that this does the fix for me. I told him I’d been seeing a Rheumatologist in Bakersfield, but he retired and moved back to South Carolina and I haven’t gone back. The thing is that he was giving me samples of Lyrica, which helped the FM immensely, but it’s a non-formulary medication and is therefore expensive. My dr’s response that it wasn’t fair that I would find something that helps my pain and then lose my supply for it. The Rheumatologist had me try Gabapentin (sp?) but I couldn’t tolerate it.
Such is life. Meanwhile, I’ve been draining the swamp of my craft supplies, getting everything sorted out for a one day, blow-out craft supplies yard sale. It’s going to be this Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and I’m hoping I can move a bunch of my stuff and find new homes for it. I have a bunch of stuff that will be free, so maybe people will get motivated to buy some of my stuff in return.
Our weather has finally turned towards Fall, and it’s now quite a bit cooler with the early morning fog layer moving in from the West. It’s breezy today and just a bit chilly. I made Potato Soup the other night… one of our favorite meals for winter. Here’s a picture I took of the Wine Train heading West. These are all empty boxcars. They’re all filled with cases of wine when they head east and the empties are returned to the west. You can see the bit of haze in the sky. Otherwise, it’s got all of the makings for a gorgeous Fall day!
My tomato plant is STILL growing! Lots of blooms, but no fruit. :/ DH put that board there to protect the plan from wind. We get some stiff breezes here.
Speaking of plants, we’ll be taking my father-in-law’s geraniums back to Arizona soon. We brought them home in May of this year after he said he was planning on tossing them in the trash as they wouldn’t survive the summer heat. I told him I would take them and keep them for him. I figured they had a 50/50 chance of survival compared to a 100% assured death in the Arizona summer heat. I don’t think they look too bad — of course, the leaves aren’t nearly as large as they were when he was caretaker, but at least they’re alive! 😉
That’s all for now … be safe, be well, and please be happy. Know that you are loved and be sure to tell those you love that you love them.
Hope you get better. I like to do crafts, also.

Potato soup is one of my favorites. I haven’t had any in a long time. The pictures are great, and your tomato plant looks like it’s doing well. So does the geranium.

Sorry to hear about the fall. I have taken Lyrica and now take gabapentin. To me they both work the same, but Lyrica is not subsidised here and was very expensive. I’m sorry you can’t get Lyrica since it works for you.

Boy, do you ever have a view! Gorgeous! FM must be very painful to live with. I’m feeling aches and pains lately…might go to bed early tonight. I’d say that you did a great job looking after the geraniums.

No more falling down. Can this doc give you a prescription for that new med? Please take care.

ryn … I rented the mobility scooter (4 wheel) from a company called Scootaround http://www.scootaround.com They delivered it to the hotel and then picked it up when we were done. Rental + damage insurance on the chair + taxes came to about $395 for 10 days. Base rate for 10 days was $295. All in all it was worth every penny.

You’ve reminded me of how much I love potato soup. I think that’s what I’ll be having for lunch tomorrow!
