The Hurricane’s A-Comin’….
Rita is on her way. The projected path says it should make landfall around Matagorda Bay. My parents live about 30 miles. Mom is in a slight panic at the moment. She’s convinced her house will be pretty much destroyed. I spoke to her a few minutes ago and told her to pack up all her paperwork & irreplaceables (photos, heirlooms, etc) and head to my house. My grandparents are close to where she lives but they don’t think I am far enough away from the coast to be safe so they may not come stay with me. I’m about 200 miles inland. I’ll get the heavy storms, but I don’t think it’ll be all too terrible. There are no trees around me and I live on a hill so I don’t need to worry about flooding. Tornados aren’t too big of a concern either because the land around me is very hilly so the most we’ll get is a possible funnel cloud. The high winds are a little scary though. I may go home and tape up the windows. Anyway, Mom sounds like she’s about to have a break down. I told her not to worry. That this wasn’t our first hurricane to go through. We had Hur Alicia in ’83, TS Allison in ’89, Hur Chantal in ’89, Hur Jerry in ’89 also (’89 was a bad year), another TS Allison in ’01, and now this. We are no strangers to bad weather. I understand that everyone should take precautions, but I don’t see the need for panic.
Anyway, I’m taking a half day today at work to go home and straighten up. I’ll probably no be back on until at least Monday. See y’all then.

Stay safe. I’m staying at my house. I’m at 610 north at 45 north. Right outside the loop. I agree with your theory.
