Oosterchelde

I’ve booked on the Oosterchelde, bought my cold weather gear and can’t wait!

Embark: 13 September 2013 5 PM, Melbourne, Australia
Disembark: 22 September 2013 10 AM, Hobart, Tasmania

This voyage is part of the round-the-world voyage that ‘Oosterschelde’ makes from November 2012 until May 2014. You will be part of the crew and will participate in the watches when the ship is at sea, but whilst at anchor or in port, you’ll have time to discover the islands and towns that we visit

Voyage description
In Melbourne we join the Tall Ships Regatta. During this event dozens of sailing ships gather in port. Although everybody is fanatic about racing each other at sea, it’s not just about winning. The Tall Ships Event is an event where young people from all nations and social backgrounds can meet in a challenging environment. Creating new friendships with people from all over the world and having the time of your life, that is what the Tall Ships’ Regatta is all about!

Melbourne is a creative, exciting, ever-changing city with extraordinary surprises to be discovered in every basement, rooftop and laneway. A fleet of Tall Ships gathering in Australian and New Zealand waters is a rare event, the last big one was in 1988 for the Australian Bicentennial but such events stick in the memory. The magic and majesty of tall ships, once seen, is rarely forgotten. More than ten ships are expected to gather in Port Phillip, bringing to the city their crews of sail trainees, the majority young people, experiencing the thrills and disciplines of life under sail.

You will be embarking on the 13th of September at 5 PM. The first activity of this day is to get to other people on board, voyage crew and the permanent crew. You will also be introduced to the first basics of living and sailing on board ‘Oosterschelde’. The next day we will be part of the Parade of Sail and on the 15th of September we will depart Port Philip to sail onwards to the next port, Hobart. As the state capital and most populous city of Tasmania, Hobart will be hosting city on Tasmania.

Wow, you did it! Tom told me he has seen the ship more than once, sailing river Oosterschelde. That’s our usual fairway.
