Eternity Revisited

 The new millennium 2000

"Eternity, Eternity, I wish that I could sound or shout that word to everyone in the streets of Sydney. You’ve got to meet it, where will you spend Eternity?"preaching of evangelist John G. Ridley,on "The echoes of Eternity" from Isaiah57:15:

“I began crying and felt a powerful call from the Lord to write Eternity."
Arthur Stace

Arthur Stace left his wife Pearl and their home in Bulwarra Rd, Pyrmont around 5am several mornings a week for 35 years of his life to go around the streets of Sydney and chalk the word "Eternity" on footpaths, train station entrances and anywhere else he could think of. It is estimated that he wrote the word around 500,000 times over the 35 years.

The new millennium was an exciting time, pivotal in my life. I was 55yrs of age, I had almost finished my third misson in life
Misson one was to marry and share my life with my soul mate.
Mission two was to have a family
And mission three was to ‘build’ my own home
I suppose in today’s world those ambitions may seem trite, but for me they were simple and substantial.

‘Kulula’ the house of Cypress Pine had been built to lock up stage and it was the turn on the century, the new millennium.

We sat in the lounge room, unlined with temporary cane lounge setting. On the TV we watched the Millennium celebrations starting with the words ‘Eternity’ showering in fireworks from the Sydney Harbour bridge.

With all the doom of the computer millennium bug around I felt nothing but joy and optimism. Yet the next six years would be ones of great personal change and achievement for me in my life and career.

It seems now after those six years and another six more I am so acutely aware of what I do, what I leave, how I feel about life.

Over those years the dream we shared and the work we started has galvanized into a sharing I could not have imagined.

I know she has been there  all along, she doesn’t change, constancy is her hallmark, consistency is her love, awareness for me seems to be a growing thing.

I grow in contentment and satisfaction being with her. How can this be after nearly fifty years a marriage?

your goals back then were well thought out and I am glad they call came to fruition. Eternity is a concept we humans really do have trouble to comprehend…and I doubt we ever will. hugs p
