In a Perfect World
On a Thursday morning, the sound of the newspaper hitting the front door could be heard as it echoed throughout the house. Normally I would be downstairs and standing in front of the door ready to catch the paper, but today I chose not to go into work. Instead, I called in sick and slept in longer than I usually do.
Unfortunately, the sound of the paper hitting the front door awoke me from a deep slumber. The sound was enough to mimick the sound of my alarm clock and immediately set my body into the motions of waking up and taking a shower; however, I skipped the shower and instead went right downstairs.
I made my way to the front door, animals in toe waiting to greet the morning air and sunlight with anticipation that would challenge the fear of a young man waiting to go on stage for his first musical performance. Upon opening the door, light billowed in in all directions, blinding me in its path. I squinted and kneeled down to pick up the paper now resting on the stoop. The animals bolted out the door in the process.
The paper was abnormally small this morning and not wrapped in plastic as it normally is. As I begun to pull the rubber band off the newspaper, I noticed big black letters sprawled across the front of the page. I made my way upstairs as I finished unrolling the paper to read the headline.
"Worldwide: Governments Declare End In Future Development"
At first, I thought this was a groundbreaking story in the developing of residential building; however, I tossed that theory out since this was a worldwide concern. Reading the first few paragraphs easily explained the reason for the title. As it stated, governments and many other important people in the world today have declared that we have reached our maximum capacity for developing new ideas, new technology, and any new inventions. After several scientists performed a series of tests, they were able to determine that we have met our maximum potential in life.
In other news, unemployment has reached a record high.
