Hundred-Thirty-Nine: Like Old Times

Entry For NOJOMO #18

.Tanya Faith.Antique Feelings

As I’m driving
I’m captured by the view
of so much beauty
the road becomes my muse.
The heat is rising and
my hand surfs through the wind.
Cool, calm, collective is the child
that lies within.

We walked into our villa with caution. Alana and I never knew what kind of condition we’d find mother in: passed out on the floor drunk, having parties with different men, or in the bathtub asleep. We dreaded being here but sometimes it was necessary. There is nothing like home, they say, and I guess in some ways, this is true.

“I don’t know why we just couldn’t rest at grandmothers,” I sighed as the memories of childhood flooded into my mind.

“I’m not ready to go back there yet….it’s too painful. I haven’t begun to sort through her things,” Alana sat down on our large couch. Mother wasn’t in sight. I couldn’t explain to Alana that being here was too painful for me too; not because I missed mother or that she passed away like grandmother…but all that happened here. Alana would never be able to understand it.

“Yeah you’re right. Besides, mother is hardly home anyhow. We’ll basically have the house to ourselves.” I forced a smile as Alana began to rub her belly. “How far along are you?”

“A few months….Draco and I were so excited. It’s hard to believe he’s gone sometimes.” Alana sighed as she got lost into deep thought. I sat down beside her and did the same.

“I’m sorry about what happened between us sis. We used to be so close but let jealously and high emotion put a wedge between us,” Alana said distantly.

“Hey it’s in our nature to be jealous and sensitive. We’re jealous because we’re veelas and we’re emotional because we’re Delacours. Nothing will come between us again, I swear.” I was trying to lighten up the mood.

Told from Kaden’s POV

I sat wondering what was wrong with Kayleen but nothing came to mind. Maybe I should’ve have tried to get involved into this world. I don’t belong here. Things change more than I can keep up. I am centuries old but I age a lot different than the humans. I still have the mindset of any 17 year old, but I’ve seen a lot more.

I just can’t figure her out. She is a hard book to read. I know that she is emotionally unstable; that is the obvious. That bracelet she wears is covering her scars; maybe even fresh cuts. She’s naïve to think that nobody knows.

“Yes!” Zeke exclaimed as he came running holding a bunch of papers. “I just found out I have the second highest grade in the class!”

“You really are a Ravenclaw, aren’t you brother? I wonder why I was put in here….”

“Next time around, I will beat that Granger.” Zeke sat down. “I guess you were put into Ravenclaw because you are smart.” He laughed. “May not care about your grades or go to class, but you still make excellent grades. In fact, I asked Snape if I could give you your test.” Zeke handed me my mid-term grade with a huge smile.

“What? The 5th highest!” I was so surprised. “I can’t believe this,” I smiled. “Getting good merits does feel like an accomplishment. I wish we would’ve gone to public school sooner!”

“We couldn’t have bro. We were living out in the forest whenever we received our letters. Headmaster Dumbledore makes strange things happen. This school is so old….I wonder why he waited until now to accept admit us to the school….” Zeke contemplated.

“That is a good question,” I pondered. “Maybe they had a vampire ban that has recently been lifted!” I joked.

“Maybe….” Zeke put my and his reports on the wall. “Now everyone can see….Oh yeah, Snape gave me Tanya’s too since she won’t be back for a while.” Zeke showed me her grade which stated she was like 24th highest grade in the class. “At least she didn’t get last,” He chuckled. “Oh Tan-Tan….I miss her already.”

“As do I. It’s so calm in our lives without her.” I looked around the room. I was growing bored. My poor brother needed to live a little. He has changed since he came here. He used to be self-centered and obnoxious. Now he just…behaves.

“Hey, want to go flying around like old times?” I questioned. “Get into some trouble with the werewolves?” I laughed. “We can visit their old clan.”

Zeke thought for a minute as if he didn’t want to but he hesitantly agree. “Always, bro!”

Yay grade excitement woo! Silly ravenclaws, Luna is never like that oddly enough. Neither are you though… I guess there are two kinds of ravenclaws. Maybe they will adventure some while your gone. Sorry you’re at your mom’s house. I’m sure that’s as fun as a barrel of explosives. Anyway, can’t wait to see you back! Bye for now!
