Sirris @ 2 months, VA surgeon
When I last left you I promised to write about Sirris.
I took him to his well baby, he is 23.25 inches tall, and weights 11.5 pounds. He is near the 60th percentile. He fits some of his 3-6 month clothes already. I have never had such a big baby. Sabastian was barely even on the charts for so long, that to have one so squarley on them is amazing.
He is a great eater, only some days I wish he would eat more. he sleeps pretty well, only up 2-3 times a night, which isn’t horrible for a baby. He is starting to coo, and can hold his head up well. He even sits in his bumbo for a few minutes at a time, generally long enough to stir dinner, or eat a few bites.
He has a heart shaped tounge, he is still the quietest crier ever, and has an adorable dimple at the base of his spine on his bottom.
He is my sweet boy, and the best thing of him is he smiles at me now! He preferes his mommy, and will smile at me. It melts my heart.I love when he is nursing and will come off, look up at me and smile!
(Yes, my house is messy… but I have kids, and I am not neurotic about cleaning everything the second it is messy.)
So, that was MOnday.
Then on Tuesday, I spent the whole day with Travis, 14 hours in a car or waiting room with him.
We had to go to Indy, to the VA to see the orthopedic surgeon.
It is quiet a drive but I was increidbly lucky that one of my favs here was able to watch Sabastian for us. It made our lives so much easier.
The appointment was long, well the waiting was long. 2 hours, in an increibly small and hot humid office I was sweating the entire timem and it doesn’t help having a baby in your lap the whole time.
Anyways, the offfered to give him more advil. We said no we wanted surgery. They agreed to a scope of his knee.
They said he needs a double knee replacement, but does not qualify because he is 29. His films were awful, I mean awful. no acls, torn meniscus, floating bodies, no fluid, arthritis. They are bad. Like old man in his 80;s bad, but the va is socialized medicine, and there are certain qualifications for treatment, regardless of other circumstances. He is service connected so at least it should be paid for.
This is going to be the first of a few surgeries.
It is scheduled for july 19th.
They did say he needed to stop working because the injury was so severe. They however will not take him off work until he gets a higher disability raiting. because at a total of 40% we only get 600 a month. not nearly enough. They want him to do voc rehab. However, because of his ptsd he is unable to do jobs he qualifies for physically, it is a vicious cycle.
I am going to try and get his rating increased.
The va was done with, and that place is depressing. The fact of the mater is, our freedom is paid for heavily. The men are broken physically, and mentally. I sometimes wonder if those killed are the lucky ones?
Anyways, wewent back to get Sabanstian. It was good to talk to a mom with a like ideals, and a similar life. It was good to nurse in her house comfortably, and without explanation, and it was nice to put a face with a name. she is a sweetheart, and I am happy to have a friend! Our husbands even spoke kindly to one anohter. For Travis this is a huge deal. I mean huge.
We came home, and I slept. I was so so tired. The boys both cried the last half an hour home, and Travis was going through gaming withdraw.
I need to figure out things for this surgery, but I am too mentally tired to keep up today.
Tomorrow is Samara’s school trip. We are meeting at a park for lunch. Its crazy because I have to fill out a background check just to meet them at a public park with my younger two kids. Iam pretty sure I have a legal right to go to a public park without a background check, no mater who is there. Will they really have armed guards at the park banning anyone without a background check?
I am supposed to goto the vet center to talk to someone about the birth tomorrow as well, maybe that will help.
This weekend we are supposed to have friends over, part of me is happy, the otherpart of me knows it means i need to clean more.
So now, I need to feed and clothe some boys, and then maybe it is nap time for all of us!!!

What a cutie pie! I hope that it doesn’t take too much frustration and effort to get Travis the surgeries he needs. I know all about fighting to get the medical treatments a person needs–it’s not fun.
