The Cat is in Charge

I’m home alone with my 3 four legged friends: Tuck, Marley and Mittens. I can’t fathom living without these wonderful creatures great and small. I’m pleasantly surprised that the Cat is still hanging with the family unit. When we moved and uprooted her from her former surroundings, snatched her away from her long time boyfriend,Tom the neighbor cat, and all of sudden dropped her into the middle of nowhere. It would be correct to say that I was terribly worried for her well being. I was afraid that she would get depressed or worse yet she would get lost in the hundreds of acres of forest land in search for her lover boy or even worser yet to be eaten by a wild animal. I hear Coyotes eat cats for breakfast. I thank God every time she waits at the door to come inside. Hopefully she will stay safe and not venture very far from the cabin

Here is a cute saying: IT FITS MY CAT TO A T

Autumn has announced herself to me; I see the woods beginning to wear a coat of different colors. Leaves are starting to turn from green to crimson. The Air is cool and crisp, the night is closer and darker. The moon shines brighter letting me know who is truly in charge. I watch the squirrels they’re busy collecting pine cones in preparation for winter. The cold winter on the cusp beckons us to be prepared. We have been busy stacking wood under the cabin. Still need to get that old growth wood at the park before somebody else beats us to it. I have just ordered a 25 lb box of Fatwood fire starters kindling. Still need to buy 6 more bottles of lighter fluid, 8 50lb bags of dog food (you don’t want to lug these sacks in up hill deep in snow and wearing snowshoes, best to stockpile now.) Husband still needs to weatherize the cabin a tad bit more. We also need to calculate how much gas the generator will use up this winter. A neighbor has given us a 300 gallon fuel tank. It sits empty now but soon it will be filled up. Just waiting for the price of gas go down. Hopefully it want go up. Wishing I could have a new more efficient wood stove but this will have to wait until next year. This will be our first permanent time staying at the cabin during Winter. I’m hoping the water pipes don’t freeze up– I remember how fun -not- it was last year to melt snow in a pot on the wood stove. I shoved a bunch of snow into the pot and filled it the brim and melted it on the wood stove and ended up with about a cup of water. So needless to say I really I mean REALLY thankful for RUNNING WATER–it’s the best thing ever since embedded video

I also need to think about putting together an emergency kit for my car. I try to be prepared at all times. The driving conditions will be rough, although, my husbands says it will be a piece of cake and for me not to worry, but I do worry. I have really never driven in snow before so naturally I’m scared. I already had a scare already in driving in a torrential rain storm last week. My car hydrofoiled on interstate 90. I tell myself to loosen the grip of my hands on the steering wheel and relax “don’t freak out” I also send prayers up for my protection. Perhaps, I should find a St. Christopher medal to aid in my safety. It doesn’t help matters that for as long as I can remember I’ve had this premonition that I would die in a car accident. This premonition has stuck with me ever since, just can’t shake it from my subconscious mind.

I’m Putting together a winter wardrobe, forget the fall wardrobe, it seems that summer falls right into winter around these parts. Yesterday, I hit two of my favorite outlet stores in Norhtbend Eddie Bauer and the Gap. I bought 2 pairs of cords in purple and gray, two sweaters, and two blouses and another pair of dress pants. I still need to buy a long wool coat, boots, dress scarves, gloves and a super warm hat.

In preparing for the season change I also decided to get my hair cut. The hairdresser actually wacked about 6 inches off. She made me feel so guilty about how damanged my hair was from over -processing so I told her to cut off all the damange. I didn’t realize that she would have to cut all my hair off. Seriously…I have no hair anymore. I can barely look in the mirror. Husband didn’t seem to mind that all my hair is gone…so that’s good. Now I just got to get used to my new do.

I wonder how the flu season is going to hit us. Last year the virus took a toll on many of my residents. I have never received a flu shot and this year won’t be any different. I don’t have a problem with giving the shots though. I’m not a sickly person and I have an excellent immune system. So it will be interesting to see if my immune system can beat this Swine Flu or as NObama calls it H1n1

WE WILL NEVER FORGET
