Spy Falcon–HELP

Something is lurking upstairs in my computer room.

I keep the door shut tight up there –no one is allowed to enter

In the past, I have given Eddie’s boys permission to use my desktop computer upstairs they like to chat with their friends, listen to my Rapsody, check out cars for sale. I have given them strict internet guidelines -they are not allowed to download anything, surf porn sites, hit pop up buttons. I have warned them of the dangers of viruses and the like but Low and behold…the younger boy thought it was ok to download games…bad mistake.

A couple of days ago I went upstairs to use my desktop to work on the wording for my invitations.  I was immediately hit with this pop up called “Spy Falcon”.  This pop up comes with an excruciating loud video with this ominous music playing in the background. In this video there is an attractive, wholesome looking woman talking about how I must pay this large amount of money for this spyware since my computer is infected with 136 viruses. This video plays about every 30 seconds. I have even turned down all my speakers but somehow I can still hear this ghastly music.

So pretend there is nothing wrong (totally ignoring the problem)  I try to use my favorite programs but there is no escaping the enemy within. I’m constantly bombarded with these little error boxes popping up constantly.  I have Norton–the latest edition with all it’s bells and whistles–why didn’t it filter this virus or whatever is infecting my computer.  I have tried to delete this spyware but it seems to mutate again and comes back with more piss and vinegar.  My  printer is even acting up now and my cd rom drive is opening and closing–HELP MY COMPUTER IS POSSESSED!

I just Googled SPY FALCON–It’s a Trojan

Ok, so I’m thinking maybe I need to take my hard drive to a professional Trojan Buster. I’m afraid that if I continue to ignore this problem this Trojan will infect my entire home network.

Advice is greatly appreciated…

Even though you have the most updated version of Norton, you have to continually have it updated. When I used Norton, it never caught any Trojans…I now use AVG (you can download it from the internet for free, or pay for an upgrade)it seems to work pretty good. Good luck w/ the computer gremlins!!

AVG seems to work pretty well for me.

That’s horrible!!! When my nephew is here he is not allowed to use this computer because he can’t seem to listen to my instructions to not download ANYFRIGGIN’ THING! He can use the machine downstairs to his hearts content, but not mine! You might go over to Deve’s diary and ask him for some help on this.

Spunsugar asked me to look at this entry. I’ve never heard of SpyFalcon, but this link looks helpful. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic43659.html I found another forum where somebody said the above link helped them.

ryn: I’d classify those instructions as somewhere between mild and medium. I found one approach to removing Spy Falcon that I rejected as being too technical and kept looking until I found the one in the link. A computer user who doesn’t want to know how to do those things really needs to know somebody who can. People who charge $75/hr are usually learning as they go.

Uh-oh. I use Spy-Bot Search and Destroy for spyware, but I don’t know anything about this. Sorry. All the best,

March 4, 2006

That is terrible…sorry but I have no idea what you should do.

oh my goodness, that sounds so frustrating. Im not sure how you can get that trojan off of there but I hope somebody has been able to help you by now. Everybody in my family uses our one computer. I always worry that I will get one of those stupid trojan things. Hope you are have an Awesome week:)

Another thing you might do is to load an antispyware program like the freebie from Microsoft, Microsoft Defender.

I have Norton and Spy Bot search and destroy and that seems to get rid of them.

How’s your Spy Falcon infestation going? I got this email from somebody who removed Spy Falcon from a computer: After removing everything with the SmitRem tool, the blinking system tray icon remained. To get rid of this, 1. Start up a command prompt 2. Kill off explorer.exe through the task manager 3. Type in “del C:WindowsSystem32ginuerep.dll” in the command prompt. 4. Restart explorer.
