SNOWBOARDING LESSON
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
I started the new year off right by hightailing it to the Summit at Snoqualmie Ski Resort a mere half mile from our cabin. I finally took the plunge and took a bold step to try something new and maybe even dangerous. I’m such a girlie-girl it’s about time I challenge myself and go forth into the unknown territory of my psyche. I have always been the bench warmer when it comes to doing anything athletic. I can see me now, sitting on the bench at Hydleberg Park keeping the bench warm for the rest of my 6th grade Cabrini Knights softball team. Game after game never too good to play, oh, the coach did let me hit the ball once in awhile and I was always at practice but never really good enough to play.
I signed up for my snowboarding lessons-I selected the 1-2-3 $99 lessons which includes three lessons, equipment rental and chair lift tickets. It was a cold morning, no sunshine the temperature gauze read 10 degrees. I slowly peeled into my snow gear–if only I could always wear this bulky attire -no one will tease me now for being so skinny(: I feel fat and I like it. I took the beginning snowboarding lessons there were 10 people in my class and from the looks of them 8 were under the age of 8.
My instructor was your typical snowboarding dude
One hotti of a snowboarder. I tend to get really nervous when there is a handsome guy in my mist, and the fact that my goggles were starting to fog up didn’t help me maintain my composer. The first thing I learned was about how to post ion your feet on the board. The foot that kicks a ball should be positioned at the tail because it is your dominate foot. If your dominate foot is more comfortable at the head of the board then you would be considered “goofy” footed. I tried it both ways -I don’t think I’m goofy. We than covered the mechanics of the board, rules of the mountain–he mentioned that skiers have the right away? We practiced with one foot out of the binding and pretended we were inching our way up to the chair lift. Did I mentioned I’m terrified about using the chair lift.
to be continued later
hmmm private lessons with the guy in the picture sounds fun :p

If that picture is your average snowboarding dude, I am signing up for lessons right away! (whispers to the snow dude, “is that a ski pole or are you just glad to see me?”) I think my lesson may take a while… all day… and night… for weeks…:-)

I started snowboarding when I was 34. By the end of my first season I was doing black diamond runs, but it took me TEN TIMES and THREE LESSONS to be able to link my turns and really ride. You can do it! You can! I know it! I go as much as I can, and I’m not afraid to go down anything! Go baby go! Wheee! (Snoqualmie sucks – you need to go to Baker when you get to be a better rider!)

I’m so glad you took the plunge! and, thanks for the note you’re all right! 🙂
Warning Comment
the chair lift would be the reason I wouldn’t ski or anything. Besides the fact that I’m older and break easily

If and when I ever learn how to snowboard – I definitely want that guy to teach me. 😉

RYN: thank you, that is very kind.

You are so brave! I hate chair lifts, too. I’ll never go skiing again. ugh.

LoL I love that picture. =) Chair lifts scare the heck out of me, too, and I’ve been on them a zillion times.
