THE SMALL THINGS

We can do no great things, only small things with great love.

Mother Teresa

small things

Mentoring a brand new nurse. Teaching her compassion, no text book can teach this, it comes straight from the heart

small things

Looking into the eyes of my befuddled Richard, he is scared and in the fog, I tell him not to worry, I will be his guide and help him out of the fog-he can trust me

small things

Placing a baby doll into the lap of Melba brings her back to happier times of “motherhood” she kisses and hugs the doll as if it was her very own baby-such gleam in her teary eyes.

small things

Whispering into Zolka’s ear, telling her she is beautiful. She responds with the most beautiful smile it lights up the entire room.

small things

Feeding Janice. She can’t comprehend to pick up a spoon and put food into the mouth, early onset dementia has ravished her mind. I feed her with spoonfuls of love

small things

Sticking a gold star on a caregivers back-this is my trade mark that this caregiver has done something so wonderful. No explanations needed. I do this in secret

small things

Reading Mother Goose nursery rhymes instead of using a chemical restraint on “My Harry” my reading puts him into a peaceful state of mind. My actions have taught the caregivers to do the same-

small things

Listening, respecting, dignity, touching, compassion

small things

It really is the small things that matter the most

It is indeed. 🙂

Wow. I loved this! Especially the first one regarding a new nurse. It’s so true. We were all “new” once & have been on the green side while being treated at times, like complete morons. I hated it done to me & can’t stand to see another do it to someone else. In fact, I don’t tolerate it on my “watch” and my team knows this. Love your gold star routine. Making staff feel important & appreciated!

I so want to go back to school and be a nurse. I have wanted to do that for the longest. If only I had the money…

I’ve always known you had a LOVING soul……. Will you take care of me when I’m in a different world? I pray there will be someone as gentle and caring as YOU! HUGS

ryn: Thanks so much for your note! Getting a letter from our neighbors is a great idea, especially since we are still in contact with them. We didn’t go to trial today since they don’t subpoena the plaintiff until they know if you’re going to fight it. Plenty of time to prepare since new court date is 2 months away! Thanks again!

Yee haw
