Master Multi-tasker with big pic
I have ascended into the high chambers of management not only do I manage 55 residents I also manage 35 employees, deal with families, coordinate with the RN who is my consultant, resource person, overseer, I settle employee grumbles, loan money, shoulder to cry on, troubleshooter, I’m an evaluation writer, resident incident report reviewer, harmonizer, concierge, I’m the party planner, employee booster, motivator, mentor, listener
I’m the Health Service Director e.x.t.r.a.o.r.d.i.n.a.r.i.e
Did I mention I have my own office my very first office a dingy office I might add but my very own office. I will need to have it repainted the white walls just aren’t working for me. I will coordinated with the maintenance gal to hang some country style wall borders.
In the short time that I’ve been in my new position, I have hired 3 people, fired one, implemented employee retention program, instituted a new position for a shower aid, memorized the WAC (Washington admin Codes for boarding homes) I have caught up on all the paperwork the former HSD did not do–v important paperwork like quarterly physician orders and state mandated service plans (care plans) that were not done. I came into this new position with a big(!} big mess but I’m finding the end of the pile and speaking about piles I now fully understand what it means by “paper pushing”!! One minute I clear off my desk and the next thing I know there is more paperwork on it!!
It’s really endless. There are three filing systems in my office right now. It seems that all the former nurses left their own systems behind. For instance I have noted there are three files for our assessment sheets, 6 files for education materials. I will need to revamp and consolidate all these files into one streamlined filing system. It will be a major project but when it’s done I will feel so much better like shedding off old skin.
I have discovered, uncovered new talents in my caregivers. For instance, I have delegated much of my typing to a gal that is on light duty she can’t work on the floor as a caregiver so she is now doing reception work. I have uncovered her talent of typing and analyzing. She was on the verge of being fired but I have single handedly turned her around with all my praise and motivation to her. She now jumps at the chance to help me with my load of typing and organizing. She has amazing secretarial skills and will some day do well working in a medical office making twice as much money. I call her “my right hand girl” without her I would not be able to accomplish the pile of work that is thrown into my lap each day. I will reward her with a pack of my very cool pilot gel pens that she tends to some how rustle from me on a daily bases.
My administrator stated that other day “shes in her element” She is correct I just love my new job.
I will end this with a picture from my new camera a cannon rebel xt eos
This is the large dock at Alderbrook Inn –my wedding venue. I took this shoot at 5:30am –a dribbly, dewy and misty morning but breathtaking
Congrats on the new camera. I’m not sure how new your position is but it really seems like you’re thriving in it!
