DAY TRIPPING
I ventured out of my bucolic community and headed down I-5 North to Seattle. I went to see my new nephew, Scooter. My sister,”Rich Sis”, once again had another baby. This is now her third child. She says it is her last. Between having children she loses her baby fat by training for marathons. She has completed the San Diago, Seattle, Portland, Chicago and the Boston Marathons. She has always been the Go getter Sister. She makes me look bad because I can’t even run a half a mile.
It is nice sometimes to get on the road alone without Bigboy and his children. I can listen to AC/DC as loud as I want, I can play my mix of 80’s songs and hit number 9 as many times as I want. I can do random acts of kindness. I like to be extra kind and let people merge in front of me 1,2,4 cars in a row it doesn’t matter.
I always enjoy going to my sisters beautiful house on Lake Washington. They also have a home in Whislter, Canada and are now building a third home in Arizona. All their homes are beautiful. I always knew that my sister would marry someone with money. She always hung out with the rich kids in highschool/college and acquired the taste for the finer things in life.
My sister was happy to see me. I planned on taking her two year old daughter out for the day for an “auntie adventure.” I wanted to give my sister some time alone with her new baby and give her some free time when little Scooter takes his naps.
The first trip on my agenda was to take Kasa to her swim lessons at the West Seattle YMCA. My sister had her bag all ready to go and give me all the details about her swim lessons, directions to the Y, and instructions to shower her before and after and to make sure her swim diaper was put on. Sounds like an easy task to me.
Wrong! Instead of taking the West Seattle bridge, I was heading on the Lake Washington Bridge. Major screw up. I’m starting to worry now. Swim Lesson are in 15 minutes and I have driven about 20 minutes the wrong way. My cell phone rings:
Are you at the Y yet?
Um I took the wrong turn. I think I forget to take the Left on Orthello.
Where are you now?
Um Um, I’m not sure, there is a cross street called Vine.
My sister came to my rescue and got me heading the right direction again. Cell phones are good to have for people like me who can’t follow driving directions.
We were only 5 minutes late for Kasa’s swim lesson which is only 30 minutes long. The last time I was in a ladies locker/shower room was when I was in high school. I was always the girl changing in the bathroom stall and taking a shower with my bathing suit on. I’m very modest. The ladies in this YMCA didn’t seem to care about their naked bodies. I mean they weren’t very pretty to look at with their hairy legs, unmanageable pubic hair growing every where, breast that hung too low, big over sized breast with inverted nipples, cellulite, rolls of fat. I could never let my body get out of hand. I have always been thin with a Malibu barbie doll figure –so I have been told. Ok, I will be truthful. I have a very sexy and beautiful body. I should be proud that I have an 18 year old body of a 38 year old women. Yet, I’m still modest and don’t wont to show my stuff.
After the swim lessons, I decided to go to Alki Beach. This is my number one place to hang out.
This is the beach where Tom Hanks is flying a kite with his son in the movie SLEEPLESS IN SEATTE. Alki is a long beach strip that runs from Alki Point to Duwamish head on Elliot Bay. It has a premier promenade for Roller bladding, skate boarding and biking. I claim it to be the number one place to watch people in Seattle. All types of people, from different walks of life: the sport bikers, the Harly riders, muscle car enthusiast, bubbly teenagers, elderly, lovers, loners. homeless all types of people.
Alki Beach is also known for wonderful places to eat like Libery Deli “Home for the worlds best Rebun Sandwhich”, Spuds Fish and Chips, Pagasus Pizza, Saltys and my favorite is the Alki Bakery. Kasa and I stopped of at the Liberty Deli she wanted freedom fries and I had a Rebun. We than had our dessert at Alki bakery. I had a cinnamon roll and she had a big chocolate soft and chewy cookie. The perfect lunch for a prefect afternoon and the most perfect place to watch people.
We watched lovers making out on the beach, A homeless lady playing the flute, the business men tapping away on their lap taps, the divers in the water, little girls searching for seashells, doggies playing fetch. It was a perfect spring day at my number one place to hang out.
Sounds like a great day. So hey, Malibu Barbie–post a picture of yourself! I know you’re shy, but now I’m curious. 🙂
