[NoJoMo] Day 26 – One of those days.

Ugh. It was my long day for the week, so I was at work from 6:30 am to 7:30pm. The kids were at "Nana’s" house (Nana = Josh’s mom) this evening because Josh had to work at 4. So, I picked them up and came home. "Nana" sent me home with some chicken and dumplings, but when I opened the container it smelled like some of the nastiness I encountered today at work and gagged a little. I resorted to spinach dip and tortilla chips instead. =

Today really was just one of those days. It started off with cleaning a dog that had an embedded collar. An embedded collar is a collar that is too small for the dog, the dog grows and the collar embeds into the dogs neck creating a large, gaping wound. The dog came in a few days ago, and now we’re treating the open wounds. Which pretty much go all around the dogs neck. Luckily, the flesh was healthy enough that she didn’t need stitches. But that means we get to clean it out 3x a day.

Then a sick Turkey came in that smelled like death. It was fun trying to figure out how to euthanise him.

Then a 140lb rottweiler was a released biter, who wasn’t up to date on his rabies. Which means he needs to be sent as a "head to lab" for rabies testing. Imagine me, 130lb woman, wrestling a 140 lb dead body onto the counter and removing his 20lb head. Yea… and "fresh" HTL’s are really nasty. Blood everywhere and fresh flesh to cut thru and yea.. just gross. Smell is pretty bad, too.

Then we get three other rottweilers in as a welfare case. All were a mere 50 lbs when they should have been somewhere around 90-100. Covered in feces, fleas and ticks. Yay.

Throw in a shih-tzu with his eye poked out, a pit bull with a broken leg, a hit by car cat with a broken jaw…

Then some guy owner releases his Australian Cattle Dog because he can "no longer care for it". He brings it to the back door whilst telling me, "Oh, she doesn’t like other people.." and trying to hand me her leash. She snarls, lunges and I go for my snare pole. Get her on the snare, and she fights me the entire way. Then proceeds to projectile poop everywhere the entire way into the kennel. Yay, again.

I love my job.
