camo cookies *w/ recipe.
The Camo cookies I’m baking for Josh and my adopted soldier.
* These really weren’t hard to make. You just take your favorite sugar cookie or short bread cookie recipe and mix it up. Divide the dough into 4 equal parts, and set one aside. (For the tan color.) Then you work on mixing the other three into a dark brown, light brown and green. It took me a while to get the dark brown I wanted, and I don’t recall the amount of food coloring I used and in what colors. But for the green I used lots of green and a little red to make the green a bit darker.
I had to refridgerate my dough for an hour after mixing cause it was too warm and impossible to deal with. When it was ready, I just took small chunks out of each color and rolled it into a ball. They bake out into the above cookies. 🙂
And for those of you who were interested in adopting a soldier, there are two websites to do so.
AAUSS.org
SoldiersAngels
Soldiers Angels requires you to mail 1 letter a week and send 1 package a month.
AAUSS.org only requires you send letters, and packages are just a bonus.
I received an e-mail this morning from AAUSS.org asking for more adopters.
And if you end up adopting and your soldier is in Afghanistan, there is a new program called Hooah Mail.
You can type up a letter and if your soldiers’ unit is on their list, they can print it out and mail it at their location, for free!
One of my 3 adopted soldiers are on there, and Josh isn’t… but they’re still working on adding all the units.
