alternatickers - cool, free web tickers

Old Time Pottery is going out of business, and I needed a rug for my living room. I ended up scoring a 5×7 rug for $23.99! I almost bought two, except they only had one in the brown that I wanted. They had the same design in an olive green, and I think I might go back tomorrow to pick it up. I need one for my kitchen, too.

I haven’t heard from Josh in several days. He warned me that he’d be really busy… so I’m not real concerned. I’m just glad he let me know what to expect before it happened. Makes it easier to handle, I guess.

I adopted a soldier from adoptaussoldier.org today. I sent him and e-mail and actually got a response. I’ve been reading a lot about how many soldiers don’t have time or the ability to respond to their adopters. I put in a request for a second soldier today, too. When Josh got back from his last deployment, and we started talking again, something he had the hardest time dealing with was the fact that he didn’t get any mail while he was deployed. His family never sent him anything and he didn’t have anybody else. I saw how much it hurt him to be forgotten by the people who are supposed to care for him. Even now, I’m mainly the only person who sends him mail. None of his long time friends have sent him anything, to my knowledge. His family can’t even manage to write a damned letter to him. It breaks my heart to think that there are other people out there going through the same thing. So, if I can brighten someones day by taking 15 minutes a week to write a letter or spend $30 a month on sending out a package of the basics… well, why wouldn’t I do that? It requires so little but means so much to the person on the receiving end.

The boys come back in 9 days. I cannot wait!

I still have to get into their room and sort through their toys and clothes. But I’ll have plenty of time. I also need to finish organizing my office, but I don’t think that’ll take very long, either.

I have a hard time coming here and actually writing an entire entry without getting distracted by something. Right now, I’m going to get distracted by writing a letter to my new soldier. 😉
