I got my second rabies shot today. I should’ve had her do it in the opposite arm. The first one didn’t hurt, this one is purty darn sore. Thus far I haven’t had any negative reactions. I’ve been told if you’re going to, it’ll be after the second set. We’ll see tomorrow, I guess.
I had forgotten about my appointment today. I remember mentally reminding myself yesterday that I had the appointment today at 1:30. And then when my phone rang at 1:40 with, "Hi, this is so-and-so from Winnebago County Health Department…"
Hah. Oops.
Ironically, I was humming and hawing over the boys’ vaccination schedule for a couple hours when she called. I’ve found a selective/delay vax friendly Dr. (albeit, an hour away…) and I’d like to go to our first appointment with a plan in hand. Gabe has only received two HepB vaxes (1 day old & 2 mos. old, then I stopped) and Xavier has received zero. So far, I can only commit to the ones I know I’m not doing. (Varicella, Rotavirus, Influenza & Hep A) I’m still undecided about Hib, PCV and IPV. I’m leaning towards giving them, but I need to figure out when and in what intervals. I am pretty sure we’ll do DTaP first. The first three doses in 2 month intervals and the fourth 6 months after the 3rd. And MMR I’m still on the fence with. I know we won’t be doing it until atleast age 5, if at all. Honestly, measles, mumps or rubella don’t scare me.
All of this research is making my head spin.
And my arm is sore. I wish I could have declined this stupid round of shots. The success rate of this vaccine is so friggen low. And yea, yea, yea… I handle rabid ‘coons and oppossums on a daily basis. But seriously. The chance of me getting bit is low (when you catch a ‘coon or opposum, they’re normally so sick that they can’t even move…) and if I do get bit, the chance of being bit by a rabid animal is low (usually it’s a toss up of distemper and rabies…) and then the chance of the vaccine even working is pretty damn low.
I was not very productive today otherwise. I should have done a lot of laundry and cleaned the kids room, but just sat on my lazy bum. There’s always tomorrow.
