This is NO Spring Break!
Dear Diary,
The Dept. Chair and the Principal called today to check on me and to share that we will be out the rest of the week, compliments of Ike. Hopefully, we’ll be able to return on Monday. Two hallways sustained major damage when the sky lights blew and the roof opened up, flooding newly laid carpet tiles and lots of sheetrock walls. There’s no telling how much damage was done to the inside of the rooms. New computers installed last year were all covered up prior to us leaving last Friday. But how much good do trashbags really do with something like this?
While my classroom is not located in this area, I suspect I will find a mess in the foods lab if the power has been off. Thank goodness there was very little food supplies in the refirgerators. I’m hoping maintenance at least came by to open the doors to slow the mildew growth. The freezer is another matter all together. The other teacher was using it to store some personal supplies and I can only imagine how terrible that smell is. Her stuff, her problem. I am really sorry that it happened but she some times does the dumbest things. The freezer belongs to the dept. but she uses it as if it were her own. That will be changing in the weeks to come.
For the most part, things on my homefront are really okay. It may be some weeks before "they" come pick up the huge pile of limbs in my front yard. But I can manage that. Son is still without power but since he’s not moved in and is in process of remodeling it’s not a major problem for them. The fence needs to be fixed already though because the dogs are missing their backyard and need the room to run! Maybe tomorrow.
I’ve got the time so I need to finish my grading. When the website comes up (soon, please) then I can post grades. I should also use this time “off” to do some long range planning for the 4 preps. There’s not much else to do as most of the stores are still closed because of no power.
A week off. I really hope we don’t have to make up these days next March because…
…this is NO Spring Break!
