Snow White

The new Snow White movie tells a modernised version of the well know story of Snow White and the seven dwarfs. Instead of being a helpless pretty girl who needs to be rescued by the handsome prince it is Snow herself who’s the hero. When the wicked stepmother sends her to the forest to be killed by the beast she runs of. passes out and wakes up in the house of the dwarfs. These little men do not work in a mine, but are instead robbers. They have come to be so because they were banned from the village by the wicked queen. Snow then joins the dwarfs in order to steal from the queen and give the money back to the villagers. She learn to fight and to steal. Meanwhile the prince has been robbed by the dwarfs and left hanging in the forest in his underwear. The queen sees an opportunity to marry a rich prince and puts a spell on him making him act as a lovesick puppy. Now it is up to Snow to rescue the prince. She kisses him to break the spell. The queen sees that Snow is a real threat and she herself should kill her now. Together with the beast she come after her. Naturally Snow survives and it is a happy ending with song and dance. A kind of Bollywood ending.

This movie has everything and was a perfect movie to watch on the last day of the year. A well known story that is changed to make Snow White the hero. All elements from the old fashioned Disney film have been used and adapted to modernity in surprising ways. The women have been empowered and it is well done. Julia Roberts plays the wicked queen and it suits her well. Snow White is played by someone I don’t know. She is fresh and new and has fun being the hero. I give the movie 5 stars, you should really go and see it.
