sharing a love-seat with a stranger
One story I haven’t told during my absence.
A couple of weeks ago it was Saturday evening and I wanted to do something. I already had a ticket to see DAF in Paradiso, but I didn’t feel like standing in a crowd. I was tired or something. So instead I went to the theatre. I believe I made the correct decision. They still had a second category ticket on the left side of the balcony. In such small theatres (this one in Amstelveen) nearly all seats have good visibility, and, although this was one of the lesser seats, it was still good enough. One exciting thing, next to the show itself, was that, of course, I had to overcome my fear of heights. The other was that I was seated in a ‘love-seat’ together with a complete stranger. That was something unexpected that they might have told me when I bought the ticket! Furthermore, this stranger was together with his wife, who sat next to him, but in another love-seat with someone she didn’t know. To top everything off it turned out that this stranger was a famous Dutch politician. I had already thought that I knew him from somewhere. He even used to be the mayor of Amsterdam.
The show itself was by the international dance theatre, which performed traditional and modern Jewish dance. Just before the show they showed all kinds of pictures of famous Dutch Jews, amongst which this former mayor. All dance was accompanied by traditional Jewish music. It was very original since there really isn’t a great recorded/ written tradition of this kind of dance. This piece made me want to go to dance more often and is also the reason I went to see Giselle. The day after tomorrow I’m going to go to the Amstelveen theatre again.
wooo, you shared a loveseat with a dutch politician! you’re the only one i know of who can say that.
