Nightwish
Yesterday I went to Rotterdam for the long expected concert by Nightwish. I had bought my ticket half a year ago and had been eagerly anticipating this event. When I got there at 1.5 hours before the show the venue hadn’t opened its door yet and people were already forming a very long queue. I had a seated place and therefore didn’t have to be afraid of having to stand in the back. I waited in the self-service restaurant, ate something and just watched to people going by. They who go to a Nightwish concert are much more interesting to watch than ‘ordinary’ people.
Half an hour before the show I went inside and was happy that my ticket was valid. I had bought it legally, but I felt some trepidation because you are totally dependant on the scanning machine. If it doesn’t take your barcode then you are screwed.
(Switch to the present tense to avoid boredom)
I have a very good place in a very good section. Everyone actually has, since it is, unfortunately, not sold out. The second ring is closed off and the sections next to the stage, on the side, are completely empty. Apparently, some people do not want to go to this marvellous band.
The first warm up band is Indica, who are very good. I especially like the last song; a Kate Bush cover.
The second warm up band is Pain. They are much heavier and also very good indeed.
After these bands we have to wait for a considerable time before the main act begins. The atmosphere is getting more restless by the minute. Tension rises. Crescendo.
You should have been there, or, you should go if they are playing nearby. ‘Wish I had an angel’ and ‘Amaranth’ were great. I really can’t explain, it was overwhelming.
i can’t imagine Anette singing Wish I Had an Angel. that’s Tarja’s song. bleck. i am not a fan of Anette at all! but i miss seeing the other members live. did Tuomas wear the funny zorro hat?
Warning Comment
I saw them last September and I adored them! I got to meet Toumas and Marko. I wish I could have gotten first row. Definitely one great concert.
