Today was my father’s birthday. We celebrated it with the five of us, me, my brother, his wife and my mother. At 12.15 we met at the usual place and walked to a small puppet theatre, which had an open house. There was some kind of festival today in the city centre and this meant free or cheap entrance to different kinds of cultural activities. First we had a drink and gave my father our presents. The present was cultural as well, namely a ticket for a circus show with Ellen ten Damme. The puppet theatre was a short sketch of Mozart playing the piano. During this ‘performance’ entered a cat, a dog, birds, some guy etcetera. And these were all puppets of course. Very entertaining.
Then we walked to a small market with very cheap CDs, DVDs and gothic/Celtic themed market stalls. This was enlivened with a girl singer on stage singing in Dutch, German, English and French. My brother’s wife bought about 11 CDs and a fantasy themed jigsaw. It was a small market and I didn’t buy anything. At the moment I think I have enough CDs (and not enough money).
The last cultural event of the day was a kind of opera. There was a youth orchestra that accompanied a choir and 2 solo singers. Unfortunately the choir couldn’t be heard easily over the sound of the orchestra. Moreover, the orchestra wasn’t very good. We have to forgive them of course; it were only children. Overall it was a reasonably enjoyable experience, but it could’ve been better.
To conclude we went for Italian. Having dinner and just talking with each other was just the thing to end the day.
