Wolf Family Tree Decorataing

‘Twas three weeks before Christmas and all through the house

Every creature was stirring – good god! There’s a mouse!

I can’t find the stockings or chimney – who cares?

I hope that St. Nicholas can still find our lair;

The kids were incorrigible, whatever I said,

While visions of handcuffs danced in MY head;

The dog in her collar, eyed the cats in my lap,

None of them pondering a long winter’s nap,

When in the next room there arose such a clatter

I yelled at my daughter – “Hey! What’s the matter?”

My blood pressure rose, my teeth set to gnash,

As the airwaves rang with a resounding crash.

The balls on the tree were hung pretty low

Giving playful ideas to the cats below,

When, what to my horrified eyes should appear,

But a ball of brown fur running hard in high gear,

With one purpose in mind and feet oh so quick,

That I saw what was coming, and felt rather sick.

Faster than lightning I reckoned the game,

I hollered and shouted, and called them by name;

Run Fubu, run Swoosh, run fast you bad kittens!

Stop Blossom! Stop now! I mean it! Now listen!!

To the top of the tree, to the top of the wall,

Oh, Lord, I knew it – it’s all going to fall!

As old buildings hit hard with a wrecking ball die,

When after the smoke clears, in a tumble they lie,

So onto the floor our new Christmas tree flew,

With all of the ornaments, the cats and dog, too.

As I stood there quite stunned, I heard a brave woof,

I looked for the dog, to throw her on the roof!

As I searched for the animals and was turning around,

Up from under the tree came the cats with a bound.

Their gray fur was a mess, nose to nose, foot to foot,

Covered in tree needles and garland, but (whew!) no soot;

There were wee bits of ornaments stuck to their backs,

They looked quite a mess, I tried to stuff them in a sack.

But their eyes – they twinkled, and the dog was quite merry,

Her cheeks full of wrinkles, wishing the cats were still buried!

I drew myself up, I was taught as a bow,

I grabbed them all up and told them firmly, “No, No!”

The dog looked repentant and quit baring her teeth,

The cats made a bee-line for my new Christmas wreath;

The kids were still wailing, for the tree looked quite helly,

We picked it back up, my best ornament’s now jelly!

All that work on the tree! Now start calming yourself,

Next year it’s a small one sitting high on some shelf.

But with a wink of their eyes and a toss of their heads,

The kids jumped back in, raised the tree from the dead.

They spoke many words as they set to their work,

I surveyed the scene, and felt like a jerk.

I helped them to right it and we thumbed our noses

At the animals below striking innocent poses.

When it was all done, I gave quite a whistle,

It was still very pretty, let’s have cranberry kissel!

I said to the kids, as they went to bed for the night,

HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL-KEEP THE ANIMALS OUT OF MY SIGHT!

Really adorable! Did it really happen? And if so, are the beasts still living?

Ok, what colour kat are you giving me for Christmas?

I love it, and wow, can I relate! It was exactly this kind of activity that got our cats banished to the great outdoors.

WooHoo! Some great entry here.
