Walls
A lifetime building walls
Every hurt was a brick
Every unshed tear gave weight to the mortar
Then there were sunny days, filled with smiles
The sunshine felt good, warming the walls
Solidifying the mortar
Tides ebbed and flowed and the moon cycled
The wall declined as
The mortar began to decay and
The unyielding brick began to crumble
Cracks begin to form, leaving some spaces
And life took root.
The roots took hold and the greenery grew
The leaves were friends
Friends showing me how to reach
For the sunshine and the rain
To use it all, to cover the wall
And then it happened.
I gave the leaves all I had
Every ounce, every smile, every tear
It was all I had, yet it was somehow not enough
The leaves withdrew, nourished no more
They shriveled and left only the wall
And the pain, the unshed tears and questions.
Now, once more, there is only the wall
And a lifetime ahead to finish the building
Stronger, taller, better tended in the shade
No cracks, no chance for something new
To take hold and develop for the brick is strong
And the mortar shaped by a flood of unshed tears.
Wow, I liked that. I relate to it a lot.

I know that things have not been easy…you do still have lots of friends here. And walls serve their purpose also, you know.

Beautiful and sad, and prompting me to offer you dynamite to blow up those walls. Maybe your life doesn’t really need them, or maybe they shouldn’t be so high, so the light can get through to you; the light, the leaves, the world full of people who care about you, and you KNOW that we at OD do care about you. 🙂 Shalom,

Um.. ow?

Yes, the walls are for learning from until you can make it without them. A big hug to you, dear SW. I thought my wall would be the only intimate friend for many years. But someone or something had other plans. Recoup, regroup, and redeploy. Love,

Once again your words have led me to deep contemplation. Beautifully written SW. Maybe the best we can do in life is to keep our walls from crumbling and to work so that they are strong enough for others to lean against when they are weary. I miss reading your entries, but I certainly am not a chaste example to follow, lol. Take care.

Hey SW! Long time no see! You know you could pull a Tom Sawyer building that wall, make it look real fun, and everyone that walks by will want to help! Be Well!
