The Truth About Cats and Dogs

My life is not the only life that has taken a distinct turn in a different direction lately. My daughter’s life is definitely affected, as is my father’s. My son’s may be a tiny bit affected by my relocation. You want to know who are the two individuals that are REALLY being affected in a heavy-duty way? Blossom and Blanca, that’s who.

Blossom is, of course, my loved (but not very personable and none too bright) Shar-pei. I’ve written about her before. Blanca is my father’s conniving and pampered cat. They are being forced to co-habit for an extended period of time and neither one of them is very sure they like the arrangement.

Poor Blossom suffers, like many of her breed, from sensitive skin. The slightest variation can set her off into a skin chewing frenzy that leaves huge patches of her skin hairless and bloody. When I finally manage to get the offending itches under control she still looks very raggedy while the hair grows back in. At these times ‘ugly’ is an understatement of the highest degree. People look at her and say, “What is that?” rather than “What kind of dog is that?” Now you just KNOW that can’t be good for her self-esteem!

Blanca, on the other hand, suffers no such affliction. She is sleek and fat with lovely soft fur. She is always beautiful. She knows she is because people often say “What a beautiful cat!” Not only that, but she is smart and can have a very winning personality if she chooses. Honestly, the deck is stacked WAY in her favor from the get-go.

But is all that natural advantage good enough for her highness Blanca? Not a chance! She insists on tormenting poor obtuse Blossom relentlessly – pressing all her advantages to the fullest… and beyond.

When Daddy is around, Blanca feigns delicate kitty-fears-dog postures. She looks up at him beseechingly with a stricken “Help Me!” plea written all over her face. Daddy chastises Blossom and sends her away… muttering about the “dumb dog terrorizing his poor kitty…” As soon as Daddy’s back is turned, Blanca shoots the dog a superior look and then runs over to her and smacks her, claws out if you please, before running off to a high perch from which she can look smugly down on poor befuddled Blossom.

Not one to allow such a miscarriage of justice to go unanswered; I scold Blanca and tell her she is an evil kitty! She just bats her eyes and then rubs up against me lovingly as if to say “But I’m so cute and loveable – how could you think that?” She’s good. She’s very good. Sometimes I am actually scratching her under the chin, which she loves, before I realize I’ve been suckered!

Blossom has her own blanket – an old comforter that she loves to nest in. She ‘buries’ her rawhide bones in it to keep them safe. It’s her spot… or at least it was. Blanca discovered the blanket and settles herself into it with equal parts regal composure and disdain. She has stolen all the bones and hidden them in as yet undisclosed locations.

Blanca gets fed first… and several times a day. Blossom gets her meals once a day. So really – can you blame her for eating the top off of Daddy’s lunch sandwich when he left it unattended for a few seconds? I’m sure it seemed fair to her!

Does anybody remember the line from the movie Homeward Bound that went something like this? “Cats rule and dogs drool!” Unfortunately for poor Blossom, it seems that she could be the poster pup for that motto. But if you believe in reincarnation………….

Hehehehehehe…cats and dogs together seem to naturally end up like this! Poor Blossom, give her a good scratchin’ for me and tell her I love her no matter how she looks. It’s what’s inside that counts.*grins*Hey,hey,we can do our blue/purple swimsuit dance and sing flat and off key together…this is gettin’ scarey!*giggles* So good to hear from ya “Wolfie” and hope all is goin’ well for ya!(Hugs)

Now is it a big stretch to understand that wolves are part of the canine family? Your dog sounds like my kinda dog!

My cat’s former family named her “Fido” because she seems to think she’s a dog — hates cats, and chases them out of the yard, or trees them. She’s not crazy about dogs, either — the ankle-biter from next door came gallomping up to her, wanting to play, and she hooked a claw in his nose. Needless to say, she has few friends… 😀

I read somewhere that if cats looked like snakes, we’d realize how evil they really are, but they’re cute and furry and we get sucked in. I love them. I do. But they ARE evil. With a grin…T the U

Poor puppy. Our neighbor’s dog shadow cocker spaniel spent a weekend with us. The cats finally realized he wasn’t going to try and eat them. Arlo had grown to ten weeks next to a horrid dog with big teeth and a chain, eats small children apparently, he was kept at the road to scare bad guys away. Somehow i think arlo would be much nicer to your puppy. 🙂

so you didn’t tell us, are you staying more southernly, or going back to the yummy yard with worms and healthy plants?

I had a client with a Shar-pei. She called her a walking vet bill. 🙂

My brother had a mutant Shar-pei….it had no wrinkles, dumbest dog I’ve ever seen.

i wish my 2 cats were this amusing, but not so…:)

Oh, poor Blossom! While I have, on rare ocassion, see the dog get the upper hand, usually the cat reigns supreme. *hugs*

Blanca! I thought she was Bianca… Blanca means white in Spanish. No date line in the sky maybe it is on the sea! Next time I will look . My 1984 journey and the epic story of A is now nearly over. Many excursions and digressions on the way to a …sob…sad..sad finale. I should be writing soap operas instead of my life….Alexias

Sunshine – nice to hear that things seem to be going well. I loved the jelly story – my vote was for you to throw it at him. How’s Chickie doing with your hairdresser friend?

DND entry. Smiling.

We have 4 dogs, 4 cats. They do not co-habit for obvious reasons.

Sounds like a case of Garfield-Odie disease, from which there is no return. Good Luck Fair Blossom {:o)

Goodness, I’ve never had a cat who was truly afraid of the household pooch. In fact, they seem to be far better at dog-training than I am. Perhaps because they are relentless and completely believe in their own superiority? My sympathy is with the poor pup, most definitely!

Poor Blossom;(( Blanca is EVIL, evil I say!!! Hm. *scratch* THIS was how I got suckered into soaps…LMAO!!! Take poor Blossom for a special ride, just for her!
