See, It’s Like This…

The dog ate my homework.  Well no, not really.  My dad made me do yard work so I didn’t have time to write here.  OK>  That’s not exactly right either.  There was this BIG Hurricane, see.  And it blew and it blew…. IT huffed and IT puffed and it BLEW the house down!  Hang on – I can go one better than that.  There were two, no three…aw heck – let’s go for the big guns – there were FOUR BIG-ASS hurricanes that blew through here and I just couldn’t get my homework done!!!!!!!

Life here in the “Sunshine State” has been quite eventful lately.  The good part is that me and my family have escaped nearly unscathed.  Daddy lost electricity for a bit and a tree fell against my house, but the damage was minimal.  The biggest hassle is actually that I have been living in a hotel for a month because of Hurricane Chickie.  (You didn’t hear about THAT one on the news, did you?)  Her waterbed broke, flooded my entire house and ruined EVERY single floor in the house – parquet and carpet.  The only floors left un-sogged were the three tile floors – 2 bathrooms and the kitchen.  This happened BEFORE the first big bag of wind blew through, around the end of June.  However, in typical speedy insurance company style, they just got around to fixing it a month ago.  Somehow this meant that I spent a month in a hotel.  Just me, Chickie and the puppy – Cassidy.  You KNOW there’s a million stories wrapped up in that month, don’t you?!!

One Saturday morning just before we moved into the hotel, a 10 year old boy was hit by a car and killed.  In my front yard.  No – we weren’t involved in the accident – but it was a VERY long hard few days for me….and the family of that young boy (who live just at the other end of the block) are still having long hard days.

And my life as a teacher?  Well….. I’ve been nominated for Teacher of the Year by my peers.  That felt really good.  My kids are demons and angels.  Today, one boy told me that since I called him a Pest, he could call me a Basta*d.  Another boy made sure to come hug me and shout “I love you, Ms. Sunshine!”.  What can I say….I’m never bored.  Yes – I really do need to start sharing some of THOSE stories with you guys.

I have a new magnet on my fridge.  It is a drawing of a school house.  The writing says “When we’re through rebuilding Iraq, can we rebuild our schools?”  That’s my political statement for the day.  “I’m Sunshine Wolf, and I approve this message.”

And now…I’m off to try and start catching up with all my faves.  I have really missed being here!

Yeah, yeah, yeah. A likely story. There are two upsides though. One, YOU didn’t lose any entries in the Great Hack of ’04. Two, You are Back! Yea! I must eat some pumpkin ravioli in your honor this weekend. (It will be done.)

Wolfie, I had no idea you were/are back in Florida. We’ll have to get together again sometime after all the hurricane traumas are over. Glad you and family are safe overall. Hopefully your insurance company or FEMA will come through with cleanup assistance. Life here on the river is still quite disturbed. Looking forward to better weather and to seeing you. Congrats on the teacher of the year nom.
