I Can See!
I have not been to the eye doctor in 5 years. (yeah, yeah – I know, disgraceful! So what else is new?) But I went to conference and got a little extra money which I decided to blow in grand style by getting BOTH new glasses and contact lenses. I do so like to live on the wild side.
I have worn contact lenses for years, but 5 years ago I had a crappy experience with an eye doctor and so decided not to go back to her and one thing didn’t lead to another….and so I have not worn contacts for 5 years.
But I decided I need them back. See…(or rather, I don’t see) I am HORRIBLY nearsighted. As I get older, I am getting farsighted. You would THINK that one would offset the other and my vision would improve. But NO. Now I need bifocals. I got my first pair of bifocals 5 years ago and have not adjusted to using them yet. What is that saying about old dogs and new tricks?
BUT if I use contact lenses then all I need is a pair of drug store reading glasses to use for reading. Odd that it’s simpler to deal with both contacts and glasses rather than adapt to just one pair of glasses. Yep – I am a stubborn lass.
I got my glasses a week ago. I am not sure if it’s the new perscription or the fact that the lenses aren’t completely obscured by scratches….but I can see again! And TODAY I got my new contacts (and my new dime-store reading glasses and my new sunglasses). Woo Hoo. Now I can see a variety of ways depending on my mood.
And so today, I have been reading, watching TV and playing computer games. I’ve used an assortment of glasses and contacts. Variety is the spice of life you know.
Tomorrow I may just put one some…….gasp! MAKEUP. Heh, that’ll really shake up my students come August. And after all, isn’t that what life’s all about?
Signing off to go watch a Law and Order rerun that I’ve probably seen 26 times already….but this time I’ll really be able to see it!
I finally broke down and got contacts about three years ago. I love them. I wear the cheap drug store reading glasses too. I keep a pair at the computer, in the bathroom, in the kitchen and in my purse. Glad you can see again.

Congratulations!! Clear vision is a wonderful thing. I’m still doing the “six years since” thing and it is getting really tiresome.

I’ve been thinking about getting contacts and then reading glasses as well, but only because I have to take off my glasses in order to read and I am really leaning toward going back to contacts. The last time I had contacts, I noticed I could NOT read the labels on food the store, thus the reason I would need the reading glasses. If I didn’t have contacts, I wouldn’t need the reading glasses. Getting old … sucks.

Congrats on your new eyes! M is extremely nearsighted (she can read the Compact OED w/o assistance). I am farsighted thanks to presbyopia. This makes for a very handy combination. I swear by drug store reading glasses & keep about half a dozen around the house and in the car. Without them, I’m (blurred) toast.

I never wear makeup either buy will have it done for the wedding. I figure it is cheaper than buying all of it and then never using it afterwards. Take care,

I know this makes me sound old, but I have a pair of reading glasses in every single room, all of my purses, two pairs at the office, and on top of my head. I honestly and truly even have a pair in the bathroom. NEXT THING YOU KNOW, I WILL NEED HEARING AIDS. WHAT?????

I had cataract surgery three years ago. Got driver’s license renewed with omly one eye done–and NO glasses needed. The surgery only takes a few minutes with local anaesthetic. It replaces the uv damaged lenses with plastic ones. It gave me “young eyee” again. For fine print, 3 diopter dime store reading glasses work ok. Astigmatism is not a problem with them.

I got bifocals 12 years ago. Could NOT adjust to them. Next pair had a prisim to help a weak eye muscle. That was okay until I took them off, but then I was totally unable to focus for 2-3 minutes. Now days I go to Dr.Dollarstore. Hey, if you can figure out how to wear makeup in our climate let me know.

I have tri-focals, & am just now thinking I’m brave enough to stick something in my eye. But I don’t think I can do contact, dime store reading glasses & a 3rd pair at the same time?? With nothing on regular TV & lots of cross stitching to do, I’ve watch oodles & oodles of episodes of L & O – never seen an episode “live” – only reruns.
