Gramma Perspective

When I was a younger mother with young children, I always smiled with empathy rather than understanding when my mother or some other woman with grandchildren would say how WONDERFUL being a grandmother is.  How much more fun than motherhood because you can be so much "free-er".  You know the kind of thought-moment I mean…. Yes, you’re sure they’re right and they have a point and they’re being so nice……but really, I have much more important things to tend to right now….so I’ll smile and make nice while actually going on about my business.

And now, as with so many other things and events in my life, I find that those slightly-dotty well-meaning women were correct.  Being a grandma is the absolute best gig ever!  And I am luckier than many, because my daughter, grand-daughter and baby-daddy all still live with me.  Oh sure, there are some stupendously annoying moments (sometimes even some brilliant fireworks), but I see my granddaughter every single day.  And she has her mom and dad every single day as well.

Oh good lord – I was just sitting here thinking about what I just wrote, when I realized why this feels so normal to me.  My grandmother lived with our family from a few months after I was born.  The surrounding circumstances were slightly different – she moved in with my parents, my parents didn’t move in with her…….but the result is the same.

At least, I hope the result will be the same.  My grandmother was one of the most important people in my life.  Perhaps the most quietly influential person in my life.  If I am half as amazing as she was….I’ll be double amazing.

Oh dear.  As often happens when I am in Diaryland, this entry took a turn far different from where I thought it was going!  lol  So here’s a few snaps of my current favorite activity with Aniah – feeding time!

Feeding is best done in the nude – wolves are none too neat!

Wolf Feeding Rule: All foods taste better when accompanied by a bite of fingers.

More please – see?  It goes right in here….

Wolf Feeding Rule 2:  All successful feedings must be rewarded.

Wolf Feeding Rule 3:  All properly fed cubs must grace grandma with a smile.

And with that, this slightly-dotty, well-meaning lady, wishes you all a wonderful weekend!

Re Swords: You’ll love them, I know. I’ve got them as collections–The Complete Book of Swords, which has the first three books, I think, then The First Triad, The Second Triad and The Lost Swords; Endgame. They’re wonderful stories. I can’t recommend them highly enough. With a smile…

I’m grinning ear to ear. And I agree with ermen-dude.My household growing up consisted of my parents, my maternal grandmother, and me. Both my parents worked, so I was raised largely by my grandmother, especially early on. She was one of the most important people in my life, too.

she’s so freaking cute. i like being able to give kids back. Not quite the same as being a grandma, but good. Babysitting is fun.
