Getting In the Mood…

In case anyone is blissfully unaware of this fact – Turkey day will be here SOON! My personal preference is to have a 10 month year – ending after October (And, coincidentally, my birthday, hehe). Let’s just wipe November and December off the calendar. Those are often two suck-o months for me so I pretend they don’t exist.

This year I’m giving it the old college try. The HOLIDAYS!!! OH GOODIE!!!!!

Well – did that sound sincere?

I think my winter holiday aversion started when my mother abruptly died as a result of a car accident. She was only 60, so there was no reason to suspect that she would not be around for a long while yet reigning supreme as the Queen of the Winter Holidays. Besides that, my sis is 12 years older than I am and quite accomplished at all things home-y and domestic. So, in the event of Mother’s abdication, SIS should take over.

It didn’t work that way. Somehow *I* became the responsible adult in charge. Does anyone else see just how insane that is? That first year, the turkey and I had a long talk (as it lay there all pale and nekkid in the roasting pan) and everything turned out OK. Since then…..I’ve had to place the crown on my furrowed brow every holiday season and make sure everyone is happy. The selfish little kid in me is kicking up her heels right now and SCREAMING Screw that! Somebody make MEEEEE happy!!! Sighs.

So……Here goes the Thankful List – I am Thankful for:

Butchers. Really. If *I* had to go out and kill the Turkey and pluck it….we’d all be eating dressing, cranberry sauce and mashed taters all by themselves.

Heinz. Cause they make pretty good gravy in a bottle…thus saving me from the shame and humiliation of serving the dreaded “lumpy gravy”.

Dishwashers. I don’t have to explain that one, do I?

The lock on my bedroom door. When the ‘love’ gets to be too much…I always have sanctuary.

My darling Blossom who will show me unwavering devotion and adoration all through the holidays…no doubt encouraged by the holiday goodie tidbits I’ll be slipping her way.

Grocery stores who stay open Thanksgiving Day until 4…cause I’ll forget something or destroy delicate culinary delight sure as the sun rises and sets.

Good dependable transportation…which brings my loved ones here – and takes them home again.

Fuzzy slippers.

Excedrin

Rolaids

Friends and family who are here, there and everywhere who somehow make all the effort and frustration worth it. Here’s wishing everyone a bountiful and warm Thanksgiving full of good food, family and friends. If this holiday isn’t one of your own, here’s wishing you a bountiful and warm Thursday full of good food, family and friends.

I’m with you on this one, but could not have said it in the always entertaining way that you do. Yes, I too would love to end the year at October, for different reasons of course. This Thanksgiving *sigh* I’m entertaining untold (literally) numbers of people and…. I was going to say you have no idea how I am NOT looking forward to it, but… yes you do, bless your heart. 🙂

Thanks for the lovely note – the comforting love from you. Your sunshiny love shines bright. Love to you,

Happy thanksgiving, friend

What would I do without the greyhounds! When the holidays get to be too much (“too much” being .003 minutes after they begin), I find refuge in the presence of the dogs. And reliable transportation is a good thing not just for family–repeat after me: “I need some fresh air; think I’m gonna take a drive. Be back in a few!” And then ESCAPE! I’M FREE! I’M FREE! Sorry, just thinking of MY holiday….

November 25, 2002

As bright as this entry sounded I felt a touch of sadness….and I am giving you the biggest brightest hug I can muster and whispers in your ear come visit with me instead and bring blossom too…huggles

Ooooh THE HOLIDAYS!!!! (said in a way almost as convincing as your bout of excitement! *giggles*…and might I add…I love the “thankful list” you posted, especially the “dependable cars” so that your loved ones come AND “GO” as well…Cute. *chuckles* I say….”ORDER OUT CHINESE”!!!! ~Hugs and Loves~

November 25, 2002

I kinda like thanksgiving. I like the pumpkin pie!!! Although I’m not really liking the big family get-togethers anymore, and we have a big family, and it’s not gonna be at my house so I can’t come up here and hide. *pouts*

Yes, why is it the crown seems to fall from Mother to Youngest! WTF is up with that? Mom dies and suddenly I am responsible for everyone’s holidays, happiness, and hysteria? I did it once, that very first year. Now, I just make sure I get invited to someone else’s house. I also have two phone numbers for my house and only give the one I never answer to my sisters. As for the cell phone (c)

November 25, 2002

(2) number, only my Dad and my brother who lives with him know that, and for some reason they hesitate to use it. They actually understand the concept of “emergency purposes.”I guess I set it up, beforehand, though. I always told my sister if my mom died first, the family would not get together very much, and that has happened. I would much rather see family members on days that are not (c)

November 25, 2002

(3) laden with expectations and stress. I definitely prefer “my” family — me, Kidlet, and the cats. So, here’s hoping your Thursday is bearable and your Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are filled with peace and quiet. 🙂 Oh, and here’s one more thankful for thing: the Internet and all the pixelated friends it brings to our lives. 🙂 🙂 🙂

I agree, let’s go right from October to January, it would make the winter months pass faster also. I know how you feel about the whole thing. Let the Bah Humbugs begin! LOL

November 25, 2002

Now Now SW darling friend IF we didn’t have Nov and Dec I wouldn’t be here lol…..and I agree with the list of things to be thankful for but ya forgot good ole FOD why if we didn’t have it how in the world would we have ever met and would you have ever bought your wonderful Drum??????? Lael

November 25, 2002

SW dearest I have a question for you and would like you to email me at Lael73 at hotmail.com if you don’t mind I’d email you but I’m don’t have your email addy lol

The very happiest Thanksgiving my dear! Lol! I know what you mean about aversions to certain months. Mine is February. For some reason I’ve had too many loved ones die in that awful month. …I could never figure out why you yanks celebrate Thanksgiving so close to Christmas. OURS is much more reasonable being the second Monday of October (& right near my birhtday!) *grin* You know you’re …..

November 25, 2002

…..more than welcome to come up for turkey dinner with my family. We’ll cheerfully pamper & spoil you and stuff you full of good food anytime you’d like to come up north. Until then, take it easy & enjoy as much as you can. *with a warm hug*

Boy, am I with you on the 10 month year. I absolutely LOVE the fact that the holidays bring my family home (sometimes) but the stress and hassle are ridiculous! Looking forward to spring and Easter!

November 26, 2002

Can we still keep 4TH DECEMBER (hint!) since it’s my birthday? You can do what you like with the rest *grin* As for lumpy gravy, that’s what sieves were invented for, I bet even martha Stewart has done that in her life!! Funny, December has had the same feel for me too as that was when my mum died. She was 62 though.

November 26, 2002

Thanks! Much appreciated!

i like lumpy gravey

November 26, 2002

I’m partial to December, but then again, my birthday is on the 25th of that month. With a smile…

Hope you have a great day, honorable Turkey Princess! ~;D ArtImp, nsi

November 27, 2002

This entry had tears rolling down my face! The way you mention “*I*” and “responsible adult” in the same sentence was just too funny for words. I hope you get to enjoy Thanksgiving , hon. Hugz

ryn: ;P FYI, I already took all the marketing classes 11 years ago when I started my petsitting business. S’funny, b/c I took the classes in order to use the info to get the business going. I guess that is why I did not think about “using” them to get a degree. Personally, I think F&N should be required for anyone w/ a job that involves schmoozing. It could be a whole new niche for (c)

(2) restaurants around the country: Healthful Happy Hour! Yea, THAT would go over like a lead balloon. Why the hell am I not signed in? I clicked on your name to get here. Gah! HAPPY THANKSGIVING, m’dear. 🙂 Luna

One more note. You have not read the multi-entry sexcapade story yet, over on the other space. I guarantee red cheeks — either from blushing or laughing. I seem to specialize in comedi-porn. Me, still NSI, but not admitting who in this note. ;P

hoppy turkey day. Caroline has decided that she gets to color HALF the book. i said i’d ask the wolf in charge, after all, i’m too sappy to say no usually. I did prohibit her from coloring only part of a picture and then no more. HEY do you know how to get turkey grease out of my favorite black sweater? 🙂 Love you wolfie girl!

oh yea, and that sounded as sincere as toad’s i guess we can’t have sage dressing then can we, since i’m allergic to sage and threw up from Sau SAGE get it, that’s what’s in it and why it makes me sick, sick, sick. He wanted mashed taters, turkey, beer, and sage stuffing. He’s getting antib oritc free range turkey, toad hollow wine, okay so i bought him beer too, and NO sage.

besides, chaun. is a great holiday, we get chocolate coins, so HEY what could be better? solid platinum coins? 🙂 yech gold. give that stuff away. 🙂

=’) entertaining, yet bittersweet all at the same time…hope this ones a good one for ya…you deserve it. :::hug:::

Enjoy your day, dearest Sunshine. With a big hug…Torin the Unsigned

Sunshine a brilliant entry. And since I’m always late (and determined not to be this year) HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🙂 Also Happy soon-to-be Thanks Giving – are you also going to be making Pumpkin Pie? That is one of my favourites. Your previous entry was also wonderful – very thought provoking – are they sending things like this to yr newspapers? It def makes a point.

Here in NZ they showed a mini-series called “The Beach” but it was a nuclear war one – the bombs were dropped and it was the aftermath. The southern hemisphere surrvived but everyone was slowly dieing as the winds blew the radiation over – its been a scary week with nightmares and stuff. Very easy to get depressed in thought, especially with all the what ifs.. (sigh)

er.. its me again – OK I’m an idiot – I just reread your entry and remembered an earlier one where it was yr birthday and I wished you then. er.. maybe you could just pretend I’m really really early for next year 🙂

11/29/02- Thanksgiving here was a big success. The clan has increased to fill this house on Thanksgiving and 12th Night. Would like to see the rape of Febuary by Julius Augustus Caesar undone and giving it back the day he stole to make July 31–Plus another from August. Too bad the earth doesen’t make it around the sun in 300 days, so we could have a year of 10 30-day months

December 2, 2002

The oddest thing about both of my parents being deceased is how wonderful holidays really are for me now.It used to be a time I dreaded when I was growing up and as an adult…like a bell going off in the boxing ring. If you ever want some of “Paula’s Helpful Holiday Hints” I’d be happy to share…giggles.SO glad we have our own families now!
