For The Children
Do you know how much I admire you?
How in awe of you I am?
Never a day passes
Without me thanking my lucky stars
That you chose me from the millions
Of possibilities available to you.
You look up to me how could you?
I am tired and often confused.
I err with abandon and then do it again.
I try my best, yet am painfully aware
of how short my best falls from the mark.
But you are a piece of me.
The best piece I think.
All of my good intentions
Have taken form and substance in you.
So young, already you are far ahead of me.
So naive, and so wise.
So fresh and full of possibilities
Unbounded opportunity stretching in all directions.
The student educates the teacher
As to what the real lessons are.
And I am raptly caught up in the lessons.
Love
Patience
Honor
Hope
Enthusiasm
Joy
Amusement
Laughter
Pain
Choice
Responsibility
An endless list of lessons
In a world of infinite possibilities.
Take my hand
Walk with me yet a while
Fly away on unbounded wings
Return to share your triumphs
Your disappointments
And your love.
I remain steadfast in my devotion
And my awe.
Thank you for being you
For seeing the me I cant always see.
For helping me know the mysteries
And for teaching an old dog new tricks.
You are my true loves.
My daughter taught me that, you say it so very well. Love,

Isn’t it odd how we can look at our children and see the best part of ourselves, yet we wouldn’t have them if we hadn’t joined together with our ex-spouse. Eww, my brain is starting to hurt just thinking about it. XOXO

There are so many people in our lives who give us help and strength, and teach us about ourselves. You expressed (I’m sure that’s the wrong spelling) it beautifully.

Beautifully expressed. Mine are grown, and turned out pretty darn good. Lucky me, considering all the hindsight ‘mistakes’ I made as a parent.*

That was lovely, poetic, and wise. BTW did you lose power? My kids had to come see me ’cause their power was out.

I learn daily from the fearlessness of the young poets I work with they are teaching me how to eat life. They do not cling to regrets. They take bold strides through life, unencumbered by fear and self-pity.
