April..no…MAY Showers
Sunday was an eventful day in the Wolf household. We had a baby shower. Sort of. If you can call a big co-ed party with crabs, ribs, fried chicken, potato salad. macaroni salad, lasagne, cake, cookies, sodas, beer and daquiris…..a baby shower.
One of Chickie’s friends wanted to do this for her. The only catch was…that it was at my house. Oh joy. That meant LOTS of cleaning up. UGH. And lots of money spent. DOUBLE UGH. (Let me be clear – the ‘hostess’ spent money – she didn’t ask me for anything…..but CHICKIE…well, she did.
We started out the evening with some excitement – a huge puddle of water collecting in the corner between the hot water heater and the dishwasher. Had to call the plumber. He was a moron. I sent him out the door and called back today, when "people" were in the office. Got a plumber with a brain…long story short…$800.00 hole in the wallet and a fairly sizeable hole in the outside of my house to access pipes…..and the leak is gone.
BACK to the shower………
There were about 35 people in my not-very-large house.
The cooks came early…and so did Daddy dearest. The cooks, cooked and Daddy dearest played with a puppy someone had brought along.
The grandchild-to-be’s bedroom is decorated with butterflies…and one of Chickie’s friends made an adorable cake. You can’t tell from the picture, but the cupcakes making up the butterfly’s body have the baby’s name spelled out on them. A N I A H.
Traditional shower games were played – word scrambles and the like.
And then came the not-so-traditional games. First up – who can suck a baby bottle dry the fastest?
Next came – smell the poopie diapers and try to figure out what’s in them.
Let me ‘splain – Different candy bars were put into each diaper and then microwaved to the appropriate consistency….and contestants had to identify what candy bar was in what diaper by any means possible – sight, smell, taste. Pretty funny!
Next was a rousing round of Name that Baby Food! Taste the food from jars which had their labels removed….and identify it.
Of course there were presents….
And adorable children…
And don’t forget the lucky belly rubs!
All in all – a good time was had by all.
The friends…
The parents-to-be…
And even this little guy, who was doing EXACTLY what I wanted to do…
That smelly diaper game sounds awful. Look at the tummy on the puppy! Cute.
