A Couple of Non-events
Wilma was a big blow-hard, but not big enough to do much in my neck of the woods (or bend of the bay, as it were). She stayed well south of us which meant that we got wind and rain all night long while we slept, but it was pretty much gone before noon. Those folks south of us though – looked pretty miserable to me. I hope the damage was minimal. There but for the grace of G-d…. On the REALLY bright side – school was cancelled for today as a precautionary measure. Yippeeee!
Yesterday was my birthday. Yep. I am officially THAT old now. The good news is that I will get older still….for many more years! lol Chickie and Sis plotted together to have a mini party for me. Sis cooked dinner and brought it over while Chickie provided balloons and cake. Or course they neglected to TELL me about it until the night before…which meant I spent the entire morning of my birthday CLEANING HOUSE. What’s wrong with that picture, huh? I considered letting them all come over and wallow in the filth, but then decided that it was easier to spend the morning cleaning than to spend a lifetime listening to the "funny" stories about my dirty house at my birthday party.
When all was said and done, it was a nice evening. I got a new combo dvd/vcr from Chickie, a cool dress-like apron decorated entirely in lobsters from Sis, a gift certificate from Chickie’s boyfriend and money from Dad. There was also a great card from Chickie’s circle of friends and one of them even called. Young Stud managed to call on the right day for a change….even though he was working.

But the absolute BEST thing I got was the cake which Chickie had made up at the grocery store she works at. Check out the top AND side…

The cake decorator in the bakery is a fan of rescued animals and so she didn’t charge for the decoration at all – just the cake! Isn’t that the best? Er…I’d like to say that it was so cute that we just couldn’t eat it…. but I happily devoured Cassidy’s head, Chickie got his backside, and the rest of the family devoured poor little Kya. lol
Birthdays are kind of yucky for me – and its totally my own state of mind, I realize that. I had more than a few grouse moments, like when I spent the morning cleaning or when Sis made the special salad that I love….with alterations that make it the salad SHE loves but that I am lukewarm about… but you know what. I really wanted to be queen…and it felt more like "Honored Personal Servant" at times. Ah well, families are wonderful things, with all their quirks and jerks! And at the end of the day – I felt loved … and stuffed!!!
Now off to do a little retail therapy with that gift certificate and cash….

Happy Belated Birthday! Love the cake.RYN: Yep, same here. Rain started around 9 last night, steady wind around 4AM. Rain stopped while I slept (between 7 & noon) and the wind’s still here, enough to sound pleasant and make treetops dance but not enough to be any trouble. Glad you came through unscathed! that is a cool cake! hooray for cancelled school! you get hurricane days we get snow days. Personally, I’ll keep the snow days– as they are brilliant for going outside to play, and hurricane days are not.

A belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I’m so glad Wilma didn’t bring you any unpleasant gifts.That cake is a delight! I grinned at the housecleaning. There’s some weird brain activity, isn’t there, that refuses to let us have a celebration in a less-than-gleaming home. I had people here last Saturday night, so, of course, cleaned furiously – and on Sunday morning ached all over! (But it was a great night!)
