My first OD meeting

Well, it’s been a while since I’ve written in here.

I’ve been trying to polish up my resume and sending a few resumes out, when I come across something I’m qualified for and might have a chance of getting.  A couple friends have leads for me too, which I am pursuing.

OH!  I can’t believe I have not written about the most exciting day I’ve had in a LONG time!  I have been meaning to write about it, but I just haven’t had the “gumption” to sit down and write.

Saturday morning; I’m still sleeping.  Phone wakes me up.  I hear a girl on the other end asking if this is SunshineGuy.  I immediately am wide awake and alert.  Yes, this is SunshineGuy!  HI KK!  I sit up in bed and make plans to come down to Southern Maryland to visit her.  I know how to get to the city she is staying in, for the most part, so I don’t bother getting directions.  I tell her I will be leaving as soon as I get a shower and “wake up” enough.  So, I shower, and get ready, and jump in my car.  Stop to fill up on gas, and I’m on my way, heart pumping like a drummer in a fast rock and roll song.  I am finally going to get to meet KK, one of the first readers I added to my favorites list on OD some two-three years ago!

A few phone calls for little directions suggestions (which routes would be best for me to take), and only one wrong turn, when I should have gone straight, and I’m pulling into the town.  Call for directions to the house, and before I know it, I’m pulling up in front of Kate and Blinded By the Light’s house.  I see KK sitting in the garage, reading.  She gets up and walks down the driveway to greet me.  We say hi, and hug each other.  I can’t believe I am actually hugging KK!  This is someone I have had so much respect for, been envious of, and just all around cared for her ever since I first started reading her diary.

We decided to go get lunch at Solomon’s Island, which is a beautiful little town a few miles up the road.  I am pretty sure that it was the first time in my life that I had crab cakes.  They were pretty good, and I have since ordered them again.  Of course, I think the ones I had with KK were better.  (or was it more the company and excitement that made them so much better?)  After we ate, we went back to Kate’s house.  BBTL was sitting on the floor in the living room, working on his computer.  I met him, and Kate, and their daughter.  KK and I sat down at the dining room table in this beautiful spacious house, and we sat there and talked and talked, and told stories, and looked at KK’s pictures she’s taken on her trip.  She told me of her Aussie boy she met in New Orleans, the marine she met in North Carolina, of meeting Phaedrus (also in New Orleans, I think)  She gave me a quick “overview” of her trip, of which I am extremely envious of!  We talked and talked and talked, as if we had known each other all of our lives!  I wish she lived there, cause I would love to visit with her so much more than we were able to.  I still can’t believe I was there from somewhere around 1PM till about 6PM, and the time just flew by!  I would have loved to accept the invite to stay for supper from Kate and BBTL, but I “had” to leave, to get to DC and play pool in the tournament.  Turns out I lost on the first game, so it wasn’t really worth going, anyway.  I wish I had just stayed and visited more with KK.  Besides, since I drove into DC for the tournament, I couldn’t even drink!  LOL  Anyway, we had a wonderful visit, and I hope to “hook up” with her again sometime.  Perhaps some day I will get back to California and be able to see her on “her own stomping grounds”!

Here I have a picture of KK and her car, with the cartop carrier.  Just to document where she was on her trip, I decided to find out how many miles she had put on her car at this point.  She said she had put on 6100 miles at this point.  I’m not sure why I wanted to put that in, but I thought it was a little bit of trivia that “someone” might be interested in!  LOL

I wasn’t sure how that picture was going to turn out, so I decided to take another one.  On this one, I asked her to think about her Aussie boy and their “activities”.  You see the results.

And, finally, I figured out how to use the timer on my camera, and took a picture of the two of us.  Of course, I cut off the top of my head, but I figured, oh well…  the pic still turned out good, right?

When I came home and downloaded these pictures, and showed it to the sisters, one of them, I can’t remember which, said, “you guys look like you could be related!”  I, of course, had to thank them, because I think KK is a VERY good looking girl!  Now, if only I were straight!  Sigh…

Time always seems to fly by when I meet one of my favs. *sigh* Sorry you lost at pool; it would have been nice for you to stay as well.
