Goings on
Guess it’s been a little while since I last updated, so I figured I’d better get on it!
I’ve been busy lately. The day before Thanksgiving, the lady from the temp agency called and asked if I wanted to work on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Hmmm, let me think… would I really want to put even just a little bit of money in my pockets? Heck yeah!!!!!! I also had agreed to house sit a friend’s house and his cat, so, after Thankgiving dinner, and leaving later than I thought we were going to, (time just ran away from us) we came home (45 minute drive), and I printed out the directions, time sheet, and everything I thought I might possibly need, packed up a few things, and drove to my friend’s house. (another 45 minute drive) Finally got down there about 12:30/1:00AM. Had to get acquainted with the place a little bit, but it didn’t take long. Was kinda strange to sleep in a strange bed in a strange place. The noises were so different, and so many of them. This place is on the 4th floor, and the wind was whipping around there like nobody’s business. So sleep was fragile that night, even after eating all that turkey.
Woke up Friday morning (too) bright and early, and had to iron my shirt and get all gussied up to go to work. Got everything done and got to work early. Worked all day, which was good. I got 8.5 hours in! (guess I’ll have to pay something in taxes this year after all) LOL
Came home after work, and just watched tv and played on the computer some before going to bed. My friend called and said he was coming home early (Saturday afternoon/evening) so I got up Saturday morning and cleaned the house. Emptied the litter box, and vacuumed. That’s pretty much all it took! So, after that, I sat down in front of the television and watched tv until he called and asked me to meet him out in the garage, to help him bring stuff in. We hauled everything in, and ate, then I came home. I wanted to go out, but didn’t want to drive out by myself, and nobody was going out that night, so I just came home and drank a few beers while playing on the computer.
Monday, I got another call from the lady from the temp agency. She said she had a two month stint at a military base a little bit south of here, and was wondering if I would be willing to drive down there to it. Of course, I said yes. 🙂 Now I’m trying to think of someone a little closer down there where I might be able to crash for a couple months during the work week, so I don’t have to spend an hour and a half in the car one way twice a day. I might end up doing that anyway, but we’ll see. Talked to her today, and I’m supposed to have an interview down there tomorrow, but am still not sure what time! Guess I’ll have to get up and call her.
So, it sounds like the job situation might be picking up for me soon. I just wish I could get a permanent position so I could get the benefits, like oh, health insurance, dental insurance, and maybe just a LITTLE bit of stability! But, I’ll take what I can till then.
I’ve also got another side job lined up. I’ll be painting a townhouse for a former coworker. She bought the house, and gets the key this coming Monday. Then, she wants to move in during the week between Christmas and New Years. So if I get this job, I’ll have to work weekends and evenings over there to get it finished.
Another side job for this weekend is for a good friend. She wants me to come over and help her remodel her main bathroom. She’s going to pull out the vanity and sink, and install a pedestal sink, which, ironically enough, my ex-wife and I gave to her and her ex-husband back in 92 or something like that. LOL She’s been hauling it around all this time, so I’m glad she’s finally going to put it to use! I think we are also going to paint, and install ceramic tile on the floor. I’m thinking it’s going to be quite a job! But we’ll get it done.
Of course, all of this lands on Friday, the day that my younger brotheris on his way back through, on his way back to Iraq. So, I told her that I most likely would be late in arriving on Saturday. If my brother has extra time, I told her I might just haul him over there too, and have him help us out! 🙂 (of course, he might just veto that too)
Today I finally brought all of my short sleeved shirts down here to the basement, and hung them in the closet area, even though there isn’t any sheet rock up yet. I moved one rod, and used another rod that I’d purchased for one of the boys’ rooms. But, now it almost looks like a closet, if only you didn’t see out of the closet while you were in there… or in when you weren’t. LOL It’s going to be a lot of storage when I finally finish it all.
So, I’m hoping I’ll start to have a little bit of cash flow soon. It’ll make a huge difference! Things SEEM to be looking up, but I have had some bad news too. One friend and his wife (the ones I went to Ireland to their wedding) just miscarried shortly before Thanksgiving, and a couple days before, he had to put his cat to sleep, after having him for at least the 15 years I had known him.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, now another friend has told me that she just found out her cat has diabetes, and she is considering putting her down too. She said she feels really guilty about it, but she’s not home very much, because she works two jobs, and she just doesn’t think it would be fair to the kitty to leave her home all day alone while suffering. She’s also worried about the bills of having a less than healthy kitty. Working two jobs now, she’s still not really comfortable, so I would say she’s right to be concerned.
So… as you can tell, I haven’t been sitting around all day every day eating bonbons…. Life for the unemployed seems to me to be almost as hectic, if not moreso, than when I WAS employed!
I am THISCLOSE to saying the Hell With It and retiring. I’d say you can have my job but! Then you would have to deal with Secretarial Person and the IT people. I consider you a friend and I wouldn’t wish Secretarial Person on my worst enemy. Plus regarding “IT” you wouldn’t fir in. You know what you’re doing. 🙂 – – – –

I always wonder how I managed to get ANYTHING done while I was working full time! It’s amazing how quickly the “extra” time fills up.
