Quick Entry

Just a quick entry……I am writing this from the Childrens Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson Hopsitl. My 17 yr old son was involved in a serious car accident on Saturday and I have been spending my days and nights at the hospital. He is going in to have "plastic surgery" sometime today. His eye socket was fractured (most of the bones in the eye socket), his cheekbone was fractured, his nose was broken and he is covered with deep gashes and has stitches on his lip and inside his upper lip. The truck hit a utility pole and flipped over. He wasn’t speeding, we know this because he was following the owner of the farm and he was going about 40 mph. Something (don’t really know what) spooked him and you can see where he verred away from the road and then right before the pol;e he turned the wheel to avoid the pole,, otherwise he would have hit it head on. Right now the other two kids who were in the truck are also in the hospital, one is going home tomorrow…the other is in more seious condition with just about every bone in his face broken as well as an arm. There was still blood on his brain, but that has begun to clot which is good, right now they are not sure if he will be blind in one eye…it’s a wait and see staus right now.

Michael went in to surgry last night. The doctors were hoping that his fractured eye socket and cheekbone would mend together on there own.  As he face swelling went down we all noticed that there a portion of his eye socket and cheekbone had a concave effect. They did more CAT scans and saw that the impact has caused his eye socket to shift towards his nose and in. SO…my 17 yr old son had to have plastic surgery to repair his eye socket, cheekbone and broken nose. Last night was pure hell. This is my child who has a very high threshold for pain and he was in agony. It was so hard to see and hear him yell. Hubby is going in to work for a half day then coming to take me home to get some slepp. I have maybe had 2 or 3 hours sleep since last Sat.

I don’t have any more info about the other kids as I haven’t seen the parents since yesterday. BUt last I heard form my plder son who talked to the one child parents last night….he may be going home some time today. You know what I now hate that expression……SOME TIME TODAY…it means nothing but more pain for a while to the kids.  But they are all out of any danger. We just need to pray that the child who is hurt the most will not lose his eyesight. I pray to God, he doesn’t.
