My Birthday
My Birthday was yesterday. I turned 49. I can’t believe that after next year I can no longer say that I am IN MY 40’S. Yikes…………where did the time go? I still feel young. So therefore………………I AM YOUNG……………….lol.
My son wrote this letter to me in my card. He knows that for years now I have wanted to get a family portrait done of all of us (the last one we had done of the kids was when my daughter was about 5 months old, she is now 13). So he is saving his money and paying for the portrait to be done this summer. He also wrote me a beautiful letter with his card this is what he said:
<He knows I love and collect quotes, so he started off with one>
“Everybody knows that a good mother gives her children a feeling of trust and stability. She is there earth. She is the one they can count on for the things that matter most of all. She is there food and there bed and there extra blanket when it grows cold in the night; she is there warmth and their health and their shelter; she is the one they want to be near when they cry. She is the only person in the whole wide world in a whole lifetime who can do these things to her children. There is no substitute for her. Somehow even her clothes feel different to her children’s hands from anybody else’s clothes. Only to touch her skirt or her sleeve makes a troubled child feel better.”
~~~~~~ Katherine Butler Hathaway ~~~~~
Honestly Mom, I don’t even know where to start, everything in the quote above is true, but so much is missing. All of my life, you have always been the person who has been there for me no matter good or bad. Mom, you have always helped me flourish in spite of adversity. When I am down and things aren’t going good, you help me realize things will always go up again and you help me get back on my feet.
You are always there for me and looking out for my best interest Mom. You support me and all the things I do more than anybody else, even if you don’t like it (lacrosse). You taught me never to give up and to strive for all that I can. Mom, I am who I am today because of you and the things that you and dad have taught and showed me. Perhaps one of the best things I have learned besides love is how to be happy with myself. To never change for anybody. I have the,”If you don’t like me for me, it’s your loss,” attitude because throughout the years, you brought my confidence up by always believing in me. I don’t think you know how much that truly means to me.
I came across another quote which basically describes our relationship. “Is my Mother my friend? I would have to say, first of all she is my Mother, with a capital M; she’s something sacred to me. I love her dearly…………yes, she is also a good friend, someone I can talk openly with if I want to.” Many people don’t have a good relationship with their mother, but I am fortunate enough to be able to talk to you about anything.
You have also taught me to see the whole picture before I jump to conclusions. To see both sides of a situation before taking sides. This has helped me already in life and I know will always stay with me always. You always tell me your honest opinion on things and that also has helped me become a better person as well as a stronger one.
I know that I am very stubborn and can be extremely difficult at times, but you always respect that give me space. I’m sorry for being stubborn and having a bad mouth and yelling. I know you do the things you do for me because you don’t want to see me hurt.
Mom, I know you put up with a lot with four kids and having tons in and out, but you always manage to stay strong. No matter how bad things may be, you always keep the family strong and moving. We all appreciate everything that you and dad do for us, you really have no idea. Thank you so much for everything Mom. I love you so much.
“All I am, or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel Mother”.
Love Always, Chris
This was from my 19 year old son. He is such a good kid, he may not be the smartest child, he struggles for B’s and C’s, but I’ll take him and his big heart and soul over anyone, at anytime.
That was such a loving letter from your son. You have done a wonderful job raising him for him to write something like that!! Happy Birthday!
