Snow day????

I  suspected I’d be home today. Over the last 48 hours, the media has been filled with projections of a winter storm. If we even got a fraction of what was predicted, I knew school for the girls would be cancelled. Sure enough, at around 6am the phone rang and there was an automated message confirming this.  I looked out the window half expecting the snow to be far less than promised. That is usually the way it is here. We get all this hype then almost apologetically, the meteorologists explain the next day why the storm somehow bypassed us. To their credit, they got this one right.

We were told that I70 would be the dividing line between all snow and a sleet/snow mix. They were dead on target. I have heard that the north side of Indy and neighboring counties ave blizzard like depths. And it is still falling I believe. Onthe southside, we got our share and then some but sleet is falling now. I can hear the tiny pings on the window. What amazed me most is that just after 7am, my university cancelled classes. That never happens. They might cancel night classes but I cannot remember them ever doing so for an entire day. Sould I mention that this is my second stint working for the university and all told, I have been there about 18 years (yes, it is essentually the only place i’ve worked).

I emailed my dept. to say that I would be home with the girls. L still had to go in since the Child Development Center was still open. Not too long after my message went out, others saying similar things followed. At around 9:30 the Dean closed our school. Wow! This is incredible.

I’ll be interested in seeing what tomorrow brings. I have already been thinking of taking the day off since the class I am taken was already cancelled. I could really use the time to get caught up on my reading.

Don’t work too hard 🙂

You don’t work at Ball State do you? I graduated from there….and there was this joke that no matter how bad the weather was, they NEVER cancelled the classes, and I just recently saw that their classes were cancelled on the news. I live in the Indianapolis area….so I feel your pain! I didn’t go to work today either…and if it actually stops around midnight like they’ve claimed, I may not be

going in tomorrow either, or at least not for very long. I’ve added you to my favorites list, in case you want to respond…since I’m a faves only diary. But I figured it couldn’t hurt to add ya since you’re in Indiana too. Good luck battling the snow! 🙂 (the above note was also mine, but for some reason OD logged me out)

All our area schools are shut down – I called in to work and took a vacation day – it’s snowing and blowing heavily. I feel a little naughty taking the day off…I could get used to this ; ) keep warm!

Nothing gets closed here unless you have a major catastrophe like severe flooding or a tsunami lol. I suppose it’s one of the drawbacks of living on this side of the world…. no snow 🙁 Keep warm! *hugs*

That’s kind of like here when there’s a hurricane blowing…I have driven through high winds and crazy rain when we had to go to work, and I’ve spent days at home when there was barely a drip when they let us off work. It’s nuts, but I like those days off! 🙂
