Time flickers past like a training montage in an 80’s ninja-action flick:

the hero stumbles, squinting and limping, through winter wind.  A fair-haired toddler howling.  The glare of a computer monitor and the sound of simulated sci-fi gunfire.  Cats wrestling.  The hero gets to the top of the mountain and puts on new glasses; they make his head look funny, he thinks.  But he can SEE!  See his bad hair day.  A smirk into the mirror.  A movie sex scene that is clever in disguising its mediocrity — panting and fumbling are carefully edited out.  A house crumbling under hurricane wind, fences collapsing and gutters splaying out like broken bones.  The love interest saying, "I’ve been so dizzy.  I wonder if I’m pregnant?"  The hero clamping new orthotics in his ass-kicking boots.  A brief flash of ass, being kicked.  A car hurtling down a freeway ramp.  A sword being pulled down from the wall and belted on.  A stadium soaked in blue, roaring approval.

The place is empty, but I’ve left a note on the counter:  there is stew in the pot and you know where the whisky is at.  I took the missus out on a date tonight.  Fancy, indulgent Italian and some light shopping.  We bought a Christmas tree — my first since I was a young child — and I’m irrationally excited.  Even though I don’t bank on the religious aspect of the holiday, and I figured out the truth about Santa Claus.  I’m still looking forward to fending the cat and the toddler out of flashing lights and shimmering ornaments.  Silliness.

Afterward we were going to land the spaceship for a spot of tea/coffee/conversation, only to find that every Starbucks on our side of town had decided to close at 8:30pm.  Double-you-tee-eff?  When we were but boyfriend and girlfriend, we used to perch in coffeehouses until well after 10.  Who decided that the carpets were to be rolled up so early?

Disappointing, says I.  But still a good evening.  So nice to be liberated from the grabby-needy short person in our lives.  Who is wonderful, but Oh So Needy.  So nice to go out with only half a plan and a full tank of gas, and do Whatever We Want.  Sooooooooo refreshing.

That’s all really.  No whining.  It’s been a decent week.  Although for the weirdest reason, I’ve been waking up in the mornings with my shoulder or elbow or wrist screaming in pain.  Like I’d been in a wrestling match with Grendel and fell afoul of a hammerlock or armbar or something.  What HAS my body been doing without me of a midnight dreary?

Aww, sweet. I hate when Starbucks closes early. That whole not drinking caffeine after 2pm rule? Laaaame. This was a nice entry, glad you got away for a little while to do just whatever =)

A weepy pile of grump is a good read too though =P

RYN: Trust me, I’ve done everything to try to get extra financial aid. All I’ve had is HOPE grant. Still applying for scholarships and such. 🙂 I’m glad you had a nice night out. *

RYN: Not really; I don’t drink it enough these days to know much about it. Last night was Jameson’s, which was good, but I have a soft spot for Famous Grouse because that’s what my grandfather liked and would give me sips of. Plus FG makes a nifty biscuit-dough rolling pin in a pinch.

RYN: Kinda makes it worse. But that said, I just did my hair and I’m about to lace up my boots.

i did wonder if that was the case I couldn’t find a single thing about VIA though, very odd.

Couldn’t agree more with your note on Shamandalie’s entry. One can go and look at a number of different hosting sites and they guarantee to not have outages as long as OD was down. I do not believe for a second that this was an issue of hardware and parts as EWS said.

ryn: Peyton who?

December 13, 2012

RYN: Whether its billing or not, it’s hard to argue that the DM has a passion for this site anymore. He just doesn’t care.

ryn: I thought tasers were illegal in the state of IL. I could be wrong. I just know they were at one point. Lots has changed though, since I heard that.

RYN: Bruce has stayed several times (back when made an appearance) he won’t sell because of his (big fat finger quotes!) “passion” for the site and wanting to keep the formatting. Shit’s outdated, is it not?

Stated. Ugh, autocorrect!

You just spoke Japanese to me… I can get on the Internet and install things. I don’t get your acronyms… 😀

Maybe you should offer to help recode. For a fee.

Oh, cats and Christmas trees – a world of wonder and curse words await you. Even before you bring a toddler into it. Good luck! 🙂

RYN: Ooooh. What about it made you toss it at the wall? I found myself doing that with Night Watch. Different author, but it just…oh, something about it. Urgh. I wouldn’t say the trilogy was well-written, but it still held my interest somehow. Might be a fluke. Also, I’m glad you had a good night out. Simple evenings of fun are few and far between for many. Sads.
