Happiness
With all the things that people chase and seek after in life, it seems that in the end it all boils down to one thing; people want to be happy.
This may seem like one of those very obvious things that people would hear and say Well DUH!, but its actually most peoples motives behind everything we all do. People have friends and family in order to belong and feel happy. People have job to make money (which they can use to buy things to try and make them happy) and so that they can attempt to be successful. People go to school or pursue knowledge in certain areas as a way to better themselves and make themselves happy. People go to church and seek after God or spirituality as a means to feel content and happy (and those who would say they dont seek God for happiness, would they still seek God if they wouldnt go to heaven? If God WOULDNT give them eternal happiness in exchange for their devotion down here, how devoted to him would they be then?).
The thing that strikes me as kind of funny though is that nothing makes a person happy forever. Even the biggest sources of happiness in a persons life eventually loose some or all of the magical power they hold in order to bring happiness. Happiness is something that has to be maintained, just like a building, or eventually it will wear down with time.
Ill admit that as much as I hate to be, I am human and part of me feels this primal, internal drive to seek out happiness. Yet if I take off the goggles of humanity, I have to wonder just why it is that people seek out happiness.
If the things that make people happy are constantly growing old, I have to wonder what causes them to do that. Can it be that nothing truly satisfies and we only attempt to have something that can never really be? Or do all these things that make us happy get worn down and eroded by all the crap in the world?
Personally I think it is a combination of both of those.
I think that as much as we want things to keep us satisfied and happy, nothing really does. All that things and people do is keep us pacified for a while until we go looking for something else.
I also think that the world isnt quite the wonderful place and life isnt the blissful miracle as many would say. I think people try and try to bend over backwards to make the good things in life outnumber and outweigh the bad things. But I think in reality, their effort is futile because the bad things are much more plentiful than the good.
What is it in human nature that makes us try to be happy anyways? I dont know, but I think its kind of stupid.
As far as benefits go, I cant think of too many benefits to trying to be happy. Sure, like doesnt seem to suck as much when youre happy, but thats only how it SEEMS. Happiness is an attitude and does very little to change circumstances or surroundings.
I think happiness is just something people try to use as a tool to block all the crap in life from their sight. Happiness is a pacifier. Happiness is over-rated (as are most things).

For the chance to shake Your hand
To give you thanks for all the suffering You command

Here in NM they are now playing commercials before movies too, and I agree…I go to see the movie, not some commercial I can see on tv. It sucks, cause the movie is suppose to be 120 minutes…but twentry of that is commercials and trailers. ~ David

Isn’t that true…a ticket, drink, and popcorn can run you close to twenty bucks…why not buy the dvd and save yourself the hassle of having to sit beside someone who bugs. I think I’d like to buy my own theatre, then let people I like come watch movies..movies I’d pick… I’d want to buy a haunted theatre… ~ David

Sweet I wish I had a hot dentist, I have some pregnant thirty or fourty year old ESL woman. Not hot. If my dentist was hot then I’d not mind the pain. Yea mine took about six months…but it is all over, well I could go for braces…but otherwise it is up to me to make them pearlie white. ~ David

Interesting points though I got to say that sometimes people can maintain true happiness; only when they learn to see the good in everything. And you know what? Sometimes this doesn’t work for everyone. Some people are fine living content, living unhappy–whatever works for you and gets you through the day. Personally for me-its a welcome change. Take care! 🙂

you are so right. I guess the best way to be permanently happy is to just be happy to be alive(which can prove to be difficult)thanks for your notes
