Landing On Your Junk & Eating Out of Your Balls

In one of my many attempts to ‘organize’ I came across an old book of Wacky Mad Libs. True to form, I ignored all attempts to clean out my cupboards and sat in a corner of my hallway to flip through the yellow pages of nostalgia. Most of the pages lack a date, but the booklet is definitely aged. Some pages are filled with my elementary school printing; others are filled with junior high and high school scribble. Either way, it was nice to look through a blast from the past.

The following is an excerpt from my Wacky Mad Libs book. If you are not familiar with Mad Libs, it is a booklet filled with paragraph-long stories. On one page it lists things like noun, adjective, verb, relative, girl’s name, etc. You are supposed to fill in an appropriate word on the worksheet then transfer the words you chose to the story that follows. If you look at the story before choosing your words it totally blows the fun. The more ‘Wacky’ you are with the words you choose, the funnier your story will be. What I’m about to post came from my innocent years (yes, there was a brief period of time when I roamed the earth uncorrupted). Oh, how I long for the days of phonetic spelling.

BIRD-WATCHING

Bird-watching can be more fun than a barrel of (plural noun) __shoes__. Our (adjective) __smelly__-feathered friends are everywhere, waiting to be watched. An interesting bird to start with is the (adjective) __bright__ oriole, which builds its nest in (adjective) __weird__ trees. Early in spring we hear the oriole give its mating call, which sounds like this: “(funny noise) __fart__.” Isn’t that (adjective) __squeak__? Another fascinating bird is the (color) __red__-breasted nuthatch. The nuthatch is very tame. It will fly down and land right on your (noun) __junk__, and eat out of your (plural noun) __balls__. Other birds to watch out for are the red-crested (noun) __bonoculars__, the (adjective) __crazy__-necked thrush, and the yellow-bellied (adjective) __hurt__ sucker. Now that you know something about birds – get out there and watch!

Now I give you an assignment. Below is a list for you to fill in. You can get the list to me however you wish: in a series of notes (public or private, doesn’t really matter), via email (you can reach me at socalgrobanite-at-earthlink.net), or post the list on your OD. I’ll then take your answers and plug them into the story. If you don’t want your answers to be shared just let me know and I’ll email the finished story to you. Remember, the ‘Wackier’ the words the better!
