What is the secret to life?

Seems lately that people are starting to fall apart. First my grandpa, he’s doing much better. Then my parents’ friend from HS (my dad still does a lot with him), had a stroke or 2. They then found out that he has a hole in his heart. He’ll need surgery to plug that. Luckily, it sounds like the stroke was minor and tended to fast. He’s going to be ok there. Now today, Roger’s uncle had a stroke while he was sleeping. Last I’ve heard, he’s not doing good.

It just gets me thinking. What can I do NOW, to have a long and most importantly, healthy life. Try to eat good, keep at at good weight, exercise. Try to be a good spirited person?

My grandpa is 94, 94! He hasn’t had anything major really happen to him until just now. He had an ulcer in his stomach and we almost lost him 3 times in that first week. LUCKILY, he had great care and is doing better. In the past he has had a few minor heart attacks, needed a, I can’t remember the word. Where they insert like a little balloon to expand your artery/vein. That was years ago! I think half my life ago! At his old ripe age, he still goes to the Club and I don’t know what in the world he does but he gets a workout. He does use the steam room or sauna. I do find it kind of strange, out of 5 siblings. He is the only living, at 94. His sister lived to be 98. The other siblings lived to be in their 50’s. So I don’t know! I don’t know any other 90 year old person who still lives at home and still drives!

But then again, there are some people that just throw my thinking off.

My cross country coach’s wife (pretty much the second couch, was couch after I graduated). Super fit, healthy. With a husband being a CC coach. They were fit together. She had a brain tumor or cancer? She didn’t make it. How can someone who is doing all the "right" things, great person. Lose their life way sooner than anyone should?

My mom’s HS friend. A nurse, VERY caring person. Very fit too, always had been. She’s now battling cancer. I’m not sure what kind, but I believe it’s a kind that has good possibilities of beating.

It just throws me off. Is it really just luck of the draw? Then again, is the doing the "right" thing keeping you here longer than you would’ve if you didn’t take care of yourself, even if you do not make it to the ripe old triple digit age?

It really is the luck of the draw. I’ve known some smokers to live to 90.
