Sleeping

I need to get a new ticker, that doesn’t end at the first birthday!

I don’t know if I mentioned it but we had Bruce’s 1 year check up, not with his doctor (stupid scheduling didn’t put us with our Dr, grr). Anywho, she had asked about his sleeping and she mentioned sleep training. Neither Roger or I are thrilled about that but she made it sound like then things will never change.

Here’s how some of our night go, he goes to sleep around 9:30pm. Wakes up sometime, maybe 1-2-3:00am. Not all those times, just somewhere in there. I end up changing his diaper. I end up giving him a bottle since he won’t stop crying. He gobbles the bottle down. I can get him to fall asleep in my arms. The second I even think to lay him down or just start putting him down, he arches his back and whines, I set him down, he pops up to a stand crying. How am I suppose to soothe him by rubbing his back if he’s standing? I usually rock, we both fall asleep, I finally can lay him down.

Last night, well it was different since we got home from the cabin and he napped. That made it so he went to bed later 11:30pm actually. He slept til 6am. I didn’t want to let that be the "up" time since we went to bed later, really that’d be like waking up at 4:30. I ended up just bringing him into bed with me.

At the cabin he doesn’t sleep well at all. I don’t know how to get him to do better. The last two times we were there we slept in our bedroom. The bummer thing is, he wakes up and he sees us right there. But in the 5th wheel he doesn’t see us but he sleeps the same. I had hoped that we had been there enough this summer that he’d finally get used to it. Bruce and I stayed there for a week, I thought maybe by the end of the week it’d be better, nope. There, after we wakes up, there is NO putting him back down. End up sleeping together. I know it’s a bad habit but we all need to sleep!

Then we come home and he’s off for a week, then he seems to finally get back on a better track and then we go  up there again! After Labor Day we probably won’t be up there much, if at all, til Thanksgiving. Maybe that’ll help.

Both at home and at the cabin, he naps well in his crib.

I know EXACTLY what you are going through. Its like you are talking about my daughter (she turned 1 on July 24). She will go to sleep between 8-9:30 (though lately we won’t let her nap past 5pm so she falls the sleep earlier). Then she would wake up any time between 1230am-3am. Feed her, rock her to sleep. Put her in the crib and then she stands up and starts screaming. We actually had to let her

start screaming it out. Sometimes she would continue screaming for 30-45 minutes. Sometimes she falls asleep sooner. She’s gotten better and is only doing this 1 or 2 times a week. Thank goodness! I hate traveling and staying in the same room with her because when she wakes up, she figures she can shriek and screech because we will get up. I have no idea what to do with that other than renting a

suite and putting her over there lol. Is it possible he’s teething?

Teeth? Or growth spurt? If he’s chugging his bottle he must be hungry. His sleep habits will change again soon, they’re not the best but if he’s only getting up once that’s not terrible either. Max gets up around 10, eats and doesn’t want to go back to bed. If he doesn’t wake up then it’s whenever kate wakes up screaming :/
