Old age (more)
I swear everytime I do get a moment to get on the actual computer, a cat, mostly Chloe, has to keep headbutting my arm/hand. Makes it almost impossible to write!
I wanted to add that I do take my time with my grandpa to heart. I am very blessed he’s still here. He came from a family of 5 kids. Three of his siblings I think died around 60? His older sister (10 years older) lived to be 98.
My mom’s parents. My grandpa died when I was 2.5 months old, on my mom’s 30th birthday. My grandma, who I loved so dearly, died when I was 11.
My dad’s parents. My grandma died in 2003. I was not close to her at all. When my grandpa had his first heart attack when I was 15, I was terrified I’d lose him soon. It made me more aware if how precious time is. I’m now 31.
Anywho, I got an email update on my Grandpa’s knee.
Sammy has been complaining about his right knee for a while now and on Friday something gave way after we had lunch and he could hardly stand on his right leg. Good thing he had a Dr. Apptmnt at 3:30PM for something else (to have a spot on his temple checked – we’ll know the biopsy results on Monday), so the Dr. felt the knee area and said a tendon and some cartilege slipped in the area of the knee cap and that’s what causing all the pain now. For now the knee is wrapped with an Ace bandage, he’s putting ice on the area and just trying to rest the leg (no Crossroads for awhile!). If it doesn’t feel a whole lot better by Monday he may be sent to a knee specialist for tests. He’s using the aluminum-tubed walker now to get around in the house since the nicer black one with the seat doesn’t go around the doorways. I have the "family" crutches in my basement – they’ve been used by many of you and originally were borrowed from Joe Nepsha for "Muggs" to use after foot surgery ages ago. I’ll get them over NE either today or tomorrow. Sammy has his phone nearby in case you want to chat….
Poor Grandpa! Getting old does bite. I am sure he isn’t a candidate for a knee replacement d/t his age but you never know. I hope things improve for him soon. And yes, cherish your time with him. You can never go back!
