I’m lucky

Knock on wood.

My child sleeps about 8 hours a night and has been for maybe a month now. I visit the July board on Thebump and so many people talk about being so sleep deprived, their kid waking up every 2 hours.

Last night I did get him to go to sleep for the night earlier. He was asleep by 9:30pm. Which means he’s up an hour earlier, 5:30am. Unfortunately like yesterday he didn’t go back to sleep after the diaper change and feeding. He was up for an hour then went back to sleep. I tried but didn’t really, then of course as soon as I started drifting a little, he wakes up. I shouldn’t even try. Then the next time he dozed off I took a shower. When he woke up I gave him a bath and fed him. Now he’s asleep again in the boppy next to me. It’s 10:30am. The thing about getting him to sleep an hour earlier, I’m not getting to sleep an hour earlier. But Roger and I need some "us" time.

The only thing is, when he’s awake, I don’t always know what to do. I’ll sit him in the boppy, on my laps with me knees bent and he’s leaning on them looking at me. We’ve been smiling at each other. I point out his nose, cheeks, stuff. There’s tummy time, swing time. I don’t really know what else to do. We went for a walk yesterday, but that just puts him to sleep until I stop.

I had the same problem when Kate was born. I had no idea how to entertain her. Just take advantage of the snuggles while you can šŸ˜‰

I went through the same thing with both kids! With Brock I would put my feet up on the coffee table and lay him back on my knees and talk to him for a long time. Other than that I would put him in the bouncer and move him around the house with me as I made beds, did laundry, dishes, or cooked and I would tell him when I was doing the whole time. No wonder he talks so much now, HAHA!
