shop *ETA note on potty training

[]

ETA: sawyer has shown a lot of interest or i wouldn’t have bothered starting potty learning but i’ve written all about that in my recent entries so i’m sure you all know and remember. we are taking it VERY slowly, never forcing anything, always asking him if he wants to go on the potty (to which he says yes and has never said no, except once when he preferred to have a bath), and letting him stay on only as long as he wants to. we’ve only had 2 or 3 successful trips to the potty but he seems to like sitting on the potty and reading so why not give it a shot? i think it’s going to be a long time before anything comes of it but it doesn’t hurt to practice.

so, shopping was pretty successful last night. we got presents for our nieces and shopped around to see how other stores’ boots compared to the ones i mentioned yesterday. payless had a similar pair of Airwalks but upon inspection, we found that they weren’t real leather. they also weren’t the chocolate colour i like. i think these (picture below) are the ones; if these are the right ones, they were $60 at our payless and online, U.S. customers get them for $36.99. wtf?

we checked out aldo but their short pair was the same price as the tall pair i like. another store didn’t even have them but it is only august. i am just glad that the tall pair fits over my calves. often, tall boots don’t.

i will be ordering the ones from the catalogue (go back one if you’d like to see.) i’ve realized my coat is black and the boots are brown but i think it’ll be alright to mix and match.  i’d rather have a nice pair of boots in a colour i like now and buy a coat to match another time than buy boots to match my coat when i might end up with a new one eventually. i generally buy a new coat every couple years, so next time i’ll be sure to buy one to match my boots. one thing at a time. i know i’ll regret buying the wrong ones. good clothes/shoes are investments.

we bought sawyer a potty book from the book store; there really weren’t that many to choose from, but i didn’t want to borrow one from the library and then have him pee on it by accident or something.  we got him the classic (i’ve read it before with my niece, but obviously, for sawyer, we got the boy version) "Once Upon a Potty":

once upon a potty--boy

sawyer and i might make a trip to the library to see if they have any potty training books later and i’m going to check out the site a fave  [Shh I’m Incognito] recommended. http://www.pottytrainingtips.com

no potty successes today. *sighs* sawyer always pees after he decides to get off the potty…on the floor. oh well. it’s easily cleaned up and at least he’s willing to sit on the potty. i’m in no hurry; he’s still very young and anything he does on or near the potty is a success really. i think he’d prefer standing to pee but that’s a whole can of worms i don’t want to open…especially since i don’t know how to pee standing! LOL. maybe daddy can work with sawyer over the weekend. i also think that letting sawyer flush his pees or poops down the big toilet will really be a hit. now to just catch him on time again so that he can do that!

i might go work out again at the club tonight. i like doing it more than once a week and wish i could do it every week. it’s tough though, b/c it gets expensive with both of us going. i could look fine if i could go more often though! the other girls have so much definition and tone.

tomorrow is book club and i’m snack bearer. i’m sending dennis to the grocery store later so i’ll have to add something on for that.

now i’m just rambling. have a good day all.

cute boots! I got Kaden a potty book too. It has a little button he pushes that makes a toilet flushing sound. He likes it but I think it’s obnoxious LOL. I really wish he’d get the peeing part down, if he understood peeing like he does poop than we could put the cloth diapers away and put him in undies, but nope… he has no concept for peeing.

That’s a cute book and Sawyer will learn soon enough. I like how patient you are. And yay for getting the boots you wanted! 🙂 Thanks so much for the note you sent my way. My hair is getting lighter though. :-/

i’ll have to get that potty book. it looks interesting. i have a lot of reading up to do, and a lot of time to do it.

bryce’s latest love is ‘elmo’ (it’s so cute when he says it) and i think there is a potty elmo?? i’m sure i’ll end up with that later. i need to get rid of some of his stuff.

I do like those boots, Anna has a pair and she says they’re so comfy! A catalogue I buy from has an offer on a chocolate brown coat free if you buy something, now you’ve reminded me about it I may have to go look up something to buy! :o)

I found De’s potty book at target. The successes we’ve had I think were accidental! I put him on the potty at every diaper change. Just to get him accustomed to the idea. The best success is when he gets up from naps and right after meals & snacks. The thing about it De loves is that we clap when he is successful. I tell him how proud I am and what a big boy he is. This positive reinforcement seems to be the best reward system for us. I will warn you though sometimes he gets so excited he starts clapping and trying to stand up a little early! Another thing that helps is when I sit down on the floor next to him and we’ll read his book together. Expect them to get peed on. The books I mean. It doesnt always happen but now and then LOL its a mad dash to grab the book before its soaked!

August 30, 2007

Im not sure if I mentioned this to you before but I keep the potty next to the changing table. Now when De has to go or needs a change he goes running to his potty. Its a slow process but they get there 🙂

I think it’s one of those things that people get competitive about (potty training) and I think that each kid just does it when he/she is ready lol Kaleigh started telling me when she had to pee @ 12 mos and then around 15 mos she got SO scared of the toilet that she didn’t get around to getting trained until she was almost 3! Colby is 2.5 and not really all that impressed with it….like, he’ll pee on the potty but noooo poop success lol I was potty trained at 18 mos and so I had high hopes that my kids would be too, but I think it put more pressure on me and then *I* got frustrated…blah! I hope the book helps, good luck! =o)

Yes, it was very silly of my bf to worry about me leaving the light on, especially if it was just a mistake. This is the first time I have done this since I have lived in the house I live in and that was Aug 2003. I think my bf likes to have me pay for things because than he knows I will be careful in the future about what I had to pay for. I think my bf is more talk than anything. What I mean isI think he likes to scare me about certain things that happens such as saying I owe him $50 towards the next electric bill. I don’t feel there is anything wrong with the table legs that my bf wants to replace. The table legs that are being used for the dinning room table right now are just plain looking. He thought fancier looking legs would look nice. When I take a pic of the table legs my bf did when they are painted I will show the before and after look of the table legs. How do you know the boots you wanted were not real leather at Payless? Good luck again teaching Sawyer to use the bathroom when he should.

LOL I am with you on the standing and peeing thing. I don’t do it, so I don’t know how to help Spencer do it – at such a young age anyway. Dig dip on that site and you’ll find nice printable charts for stickers and cataloging and such when he gets going. You’re right! Anything on the potty, even sitting on it, is a success. Our pedi suggested we start at 18 mos and it was bad. Though, a lady in

our playgroup had her daughter trained by 21 mos. It all depends on the child. You just gotta find what works best. Where do you guys keep his potty chair? In the bathroom only? Maybe move it from room to room to see if he’s more apt to use it elseware. Glad you got the boots you like! Crazy about the prices differing so much! Sheesh!

August 30, 2007

*DEEP not dip! lmao!

August 30, 2007

ryn: lol I didn’t mean YOU were trying to compete…I just mean mom’s in general try to make other mothers insecure about it all. I’m sure that if he’s ready he’ll be doing great in no time…Colby showed signs of being ready too, we got the potty and he did great for a while then really slacked off…blah! I’m trying to get him back at it! lol I hate diapers!!

Good luck with potty training–may the force be with us! LOL

Why does it matter if the boots are real leather or fake leather? I am surprised that someone would make boots to use in the snow that are made of any type of leather. I know most leather jackets have to be dry cleaned. I wonder if leather boots have to be washed at a dry cleaners. Where did you go in the U.S. to know that items in the U.S. don’t show Canadian amounts on them? Now that I think about it if you buy certain brands of greeting cards they will say how much the card is in U.S. and Canadian amounts. I do notice the card would cost more in Canada if bought from there. That is the only times I have seen Canadian amounts on an item. What does the stepping stone look like and what movie did you get from keeing it real?

August 30, 2007

I’ve taken that book out from the library for Nick before 🙂 cute book. I bought him this one book that has a chart attached and stickers you put on the chart every time he goes potty 🙂 that might work for Sawyer! One thing I noticed with Nick though is that he really didn’t care much about the potty until past 2 y.o. If I were to do it all over again I wouldn’t push him so much that young

August 30, 2007

You got me thinking about Winter Coats and Boots now. I will be keeping the coat I have, but a new pair of boots would be very nice. Good luck with the potty training!

Now I see why it matters if you buy boots made of real leather and not fake leather. It’s ok you misunderstood me when I asked you if Canada has both US and Canada prices on items one buys. Thanks for telling me what items in Canada have both US and Canada prices on them. What made you think that I was asking if a cash register in Canada have US money info on it? It’s ok you thought this.<P> Maybe sometime you can take a pic of the stepping stone for ppl to see. If you do don’t say who asked to share that pic if you do.

cute boots. When we tried in AL he did the same thing. But he’s definitly showing signs of being ready… but i’m as well going to take it slow. He follows me to the bathroom says pee pee poopie n is holding his bladder thru most of the night and when he takes his naps.. so I”m going to check out that sight.. Good luck w/ Sawyer… 🙂 It’s going to be the best thing about kids… potty training

August 30, 2007

I like the boots. J had not interested in potty training until he got around other kids on a daily basis. Then it still took a while. Kids figure it out in their own time. And like Victim of Changes once told me, I’ve never heard of a kid going off to college in diapers, so it will happen!

🙂

August 30, 2007

I have trouble lots of times with tall boots fitting over my calves too, if it makes you feel better. And even if it doesn’t. I made a comment the other day about girls not standing to pee, and one of my coworkers shared the fact that his 11 year old daughter DOES pee standing up because she was raised solely by him in those tender years and only saw him and her brothers peeing. First, that’s odd. Second, why were they peeing in front of her? And third, how can you screw up peeing sitting down? LOL just tell her to sit! Anyway. I think you got the right idea with fun books 🙂 kristen

August 30, 2007

I wonder if part of the price difference is just due to the difference of value in currency. When i was a kid i used to look at the prices on the backs of books and wonder why canadians paid a different amount. Also it depends on where a product is made. Between the US and Mexico, some things are more expensive here and some things are more there. Name brand clothes cost more in mexico for example

August 30, 2007

Also, the books look good 🙂 it makes your job easier knowing that sawyer is genuinely open to it!

August 30, 2007

i love the boots. i have huge calf muscles and can never find a tall pair that fit 🙁 i miss reading you and hopefully one day ill catch up but for now know you and sawyer are on my mind 🙂

August 30, 2007

that looks like a cute book lol have fun at book club… what are you reading anyway?

Thanks for saying you will point out to me when you show the stepping stone with the dragon fly on it in an entry. I don’t know why I don’t like ppl knowing I note you.
