damn… *ETA explanation
*ETA haha you guys are too cute. by behind, i meant i was worried he’d be a bit behind b/c a lot of the kids will be older than he is. not much though. most of them will turn 4 before they go and he will turn 4 after he starts going to school. lol i def don’t think my kid is behind in any way. he’s pretty smart! he puts puzzles together without help and complicated train tracks as well. he knows his alphabet, recognizes all the letters, counts to 20 (and kind of to 30), traces his name, can spell his name, knows his address, knows things like "m is for mommy", is potty trained, makes up stories, and has started drawing figures (though i don’t know when most kids start that.) i think i’m going to start teaching him to recognize small words soon but only as we’re reading books. he has a library card so we’ll be getting even more books (we have a serious collection of books at our house already) each week. sillies! haha you must’ve thought i was such a mean mom!!
the new way to change the diary colours is a PITA!!!!! i know it’s not that new but i haven’t used it until today. ugh. i need to figure out how to use a custom border. i forget now. *k got it.
this morning, dropped sawyer off at his summer program. when i picked him up, i got compliments on him. huh. cool. one mom said "he just went to the bathroom all by himself!" i was like "yes." she said "that’s pretty good for 3." i told her he’s 3.5 and that he’d be starting school in sept. (meaning he HAS to be potty trained.) one of the girls who runs it added to the conversation then. she said he’ll be advanced over the other kids. and i was worried he might be behind b/c he’ll be kinda young and he doesn’t really write his name by himself. he will trace it though. i was so surprised i didn’t ask why or anything so i might have to talk to the girl again tomorrow when i drop him off. it’s nice to get some feedback. for as much as they do at preschool, they don’t give assessments of any kind. i was really hoping they would. and dennis doesn’t ask the right questions.
after dropping him, we did our walk (about 3.5 k) and got a cappuccino (prob not the best choice.) i’m having trouble walking now. damn heel spur. i go to the doc on friday to talk about my x-ray. i hope he gives me a cortison shot and sends me on my way.
not sure what we’re going to do about our workout tonight. mom can’t watch the boys. she has to work all day every day this week. we might try taking them with. i don’t know. ugh. then on saturday, i will likely meet dennis at noon after his class so we can work out again since fridays aren’t working out (he doesn’t have them off anymore. they’re pretty busy all of a sudden.) it might not work with the boys along though.
so i was trying to be positive yesterday and today, i’m back to being frustrated. my emotions are up and down this week. damn aunt flo. or uncle harvey (haha that’s one of my fave’s version. where the heck is brenda anyway?!) i just feel hopeless. it’s like, here i am trying and other moms don’t have to try at all. i walk, work out, don’t eat that badly and look at me. look at what i weight. fuck. it’s hard to not get upset. i’m on this effin plateau that i can’t get off of. so frustrated. why is it easier for some people? i thought my pics were ok but looking back, i still look awful. argh. stupid body.
on the other hand, friends had their twins and they have seperate birthdays! that is pretty cool. one was born last night at 11:34 and one was born at 12:04. so cool! and one got to watch her sister being born; her daddy was holding her and she had her eyes open. how cool is that?
anyway, i’m babbling.

Metabolisms aren’t fair. I weigh about 50% more than the average Asian woman due to my shitty metabolism. I’m a giant!! lol. Yay for Sawyer and his compliments!!
Warning Comment
RYN: lol…I am indeed NOT a giant when compared to the average non-Asian woman, but in my family, and in any Asian-centric place or area, I stick out like a sore thumb because I’m even taller than most of the men. lol. I’m 5’6″ and like 165lbs-ish…when the average Asian woman is about 5’1″-5’2″ and just over 100lbs, I’m GINORMOUS!!! I’m just average if you compare me to European women, in fact, their clothes fit me better too…just not in the hips…I inherited that ONE annoying Asian trait…the hiplessness. Grr.

I dont know how you guys did it with potty training, its so hard for us

trade the capp in for a smoothie of some sort ;P that’s great that sawyer can trace his name, i ask bryce to write letters, and he looks at me like i’m retarded, lol

Definitely have a chat to Sawyer’s teachers, and if there’s not enough time at pick-up time, suggest maybe a meeting time or a phone call? Here in Australia, preschools don’t do a lot of formal assessments either, but there’s a lot of paperwork going on behind the scenes that parents don’t necessarily see unless they ask.

P.S. – I don’t expect children to be able to write their names (especially their whole name!) at 3.5 years… for many kids they’re still working on it at 4.5! (I’d say probably a fifth of the group I’m currently teaching aren’t ready to even focus on writing the first letter yet (but can identify their name from two written words). Enough, whole teaching talk.

yay Sawyer
Aww that is cool about your friends twins

Girl I don’t know how the kids are in Canada but Sawyer is far from behind. That kid is VERY smart. Or maybe us US people are just dumb. lol

I enjoy your babbling. And i like your new diary look, i just changed mine too, coincidentally
That’s great about sawyer being so well-prepared for things. In a way i think it’s good that they don’t assess at his current program because (A) the more assessments teachers do, the less actual teaching we have time for, and (B) 3.5 is so young, i’d hate to worry some parents that their child is “behind” when children really hit milestones at different times at that age. And the bottom line is, if a child is really ahead or behind, the teacher can tell without lots of formal assessments (it sounds like the other parents can too!) and you could just ask to sit down and chat a bit. Also, you can always request an assessment either for the teacher to give (they might say no, but you could ask) OR for you to take home and just be aware of. For example, at my elementary school we have a kindergarten readiness form that we use that identifies all different areas of school preparedness, from maturity to independence to pre-phonetic skills, etc. It’s just handy for parents to know what’s expected. But you seem like the kind of mom who already does. God i write a lot!

About your self-image, that’s hard. You’re right it is just harder for some people to drop pounds than others. I’d tell you “just don’t worry about it!” but i know how it is when you’re just fixated on a certain result or image and it doesn’t happen. It’s frustrating! All i can say is stay healthy, keep working at it, and don’t be so hard on yourself. You’ve got a lot going for you, don’t let yourweight concerns drown the rest out. It will happen.

Sawyer is a very smart lil boy. LJ just now learned how to trace his name at school and to read his name. So you have nada to worry about w/ Sawyer… and they really don’t give reports? When he was in school I got one everday, summer is diff i guess. And you look beautiful! But to get off of a platue, gotta change your work out routine…

Go Sawyer! And that is fab about the twins :o)

I understood what you meant… it just seemed like you wanted an assessment or more information (to know more specifically where he stood). But i’m sure most of your readers understand that sawyer is advanced
Warning Comment
LOL that IS cool, but I think if I were a twin I might feel ripped off that I didn’t get to share the b-day! lol

That is so cool about the twins! I studied child development so I’m a pro when I say that Sawyer is totally up there learning-wise.
They usually start drawing around the age of 3. Usually you cannot make out what they’re drawing but with Sawyer I think you can, right? That’s incredible! Don’t worry, mommy you’re doing awesome and so are your beautiful children.

you can babble all you want
i like reading your updates! Sawyer will do great in school, kids pick things up so quick!
