Disco Fever
The theme from Shaft was just on the radio and it made me realize that I really hate the 70s. I hate the clothing styles: the big collars and fat ties and the glitter makeup and the polyester leisure suits and the platform shoes and the false eyelashes and the gold chains…oh gawd the gold medallions.
And I hate the feeling of nothing within my control and the painful decisions and the fear of being alone and the relief of being alone. Life with my children and poor and going to work and having no life outside work and children and being poor.
And disco lights and disco nights and shimmering blouses and heels higher than the sky and the frantic movements to frenzied music and one-night stands and that empty feeling when you know this isn’t what it’s all about, but not knowing what else to do.
And just trying to make do, raise them right, trying to figure it out. Being twenty five and naive and wanting things simple and knowing nothing was simple since you were five and on your way to kindergarten.
Yeah, I really do hate the 70s.
peace~~
If it makes you feel any better the leisure suit officially went out of style on my birthday (hugs)

I remember when “My Sharona” from the Knack came out – and all the disco babies didn’t know how to move to it….but loved the hard core beat. Rock and Roll was back. Hallelujah. All the glitter glam girls with the plexiglass shoes dumped their goldfish out for good – and swapped for the jelly bracelets and AquaNet hair of the 80’s… and the world turned on…. I was a bit younger – but every bit as scared and lonely. I was glad when they were over, too.
