Jake is sitting at MEPS right now. Should be getting some orders today, or at least more information (I’ve heard from a few people that they didn’t get the actual orders until their ship date). Man, to be a fly on the wall in there today…..I’m dying to know if Ft. Campbell is going to be his only option, or if they’ll let him choose from others. And if they do give him a choice….which way will he go? I started a game last night with him, to weigh different options against Ft. Campbell. There’s not many other places he’d choose over there, apparently. Mainly because he’s done a lot of research on Campbell already, and not so much on other places. He would take anything in Georgia though, because then we’d have more opportunities to go see the Braves play.
Hope for good things for us!
*Update* Yeah, actual orders won’t be in hand for a couple of weeks. He didn’t get any other options, so Fort Campbell it is. However, from what we can decipher of the paperwork he was given, he’s being assigned to a unit that is currently deployed. Which means….he might in process and immediately be shipped off. There’s also a possibility that he could be kept behind for Rear D, but I’m personally thinking that’s unlikely. He was probably assigned there for a reason, and not to just sit around and twiddle his thumbs, ya know? This brigade just deployed in September, so they obviously won’t be back for several more months. If they were going to be on their way back in a month or two, I could see them just keeping Jake around for Rear D, but not for 9 months.
Guess I’ll find out more in a few weeks. Also looks like we might be spending another anniversary separated. He has to report no later than the 21st. We can’t really do anything about finding a place to live until he has orders, so the kids and I will have to stay here for the movers and such at least. And if he’s just going to turn around and deploy, there’s no sense in us moving out there until he gets back.
Needless to say, I almost feel MORE clueless about everything than I did before today. Ah, gotta love the Army.
