Moving?

Ummm……we may be moving after all. Not sure what Jake’s going to want to do about this.

Our townhouse community recently came under new management, and we kind of figured that they’d raise rents or something. Well, I had a thing on our door today talking about lease renewal.

The "market rate" for our townhouse is $795. However, we rented while they were running a special and so we pay $725 a month. Well, if we renew our lease for a year, that would jump to $754 a month. And if we decided to not actually do a full year lease, we’d just have a month to month thing, in which case we’d have to pay $895 a month.

Now, I know that the increase doesn’t seem like much. And I know that we’ll be getting that VA money at some freaking point in the future. But. We already know that our health insurance premiums are going to increase in January. And we want to use that VA money to pay off the credit cards and have some of it to put into savings, too, because we do want to buy a house within the next few years.

So I really don’t want to spend an extra $30 a month in rent when that money could be better applied towards other things, like, say, diapers. Yeah, that’s another consideration. We’re going to have increased expenses already just in diapers.

So I don’t know what we’re going to do. We’ve discussed moving many times, obviously. We actually discussed it again pretty recently, as in, the past couple of weeks. This is definitely going to sway our choice. I’m really leaning towards leaving, especially when I KNOW that I can find a three bedroom apartment for less than what we’re paying now.

We have until the end of the month to decide, because if we don’t renew, we have to give them 60 days written notice.

Ugh. Not what I want to deal with right now.

wow thats sucks here in canada they are not allowed to raise the rent that much. You should look into it.

Why do you guys need a 3 bedroom? Just curious. Hopefully you guys can find something. We’re paying $695 for our apartment, but they too just got new ownership, so who knows if our rent will go up. Blah.

Good luck in this tough decision!

Moving might be best then. That is really stupid how high the price jumps for a month-month rent.

Good luck with that!

It will all work out for the best either way. If you don’t like the area anyways (and who can blame you with how long it took them to fix the ac., ours went out and it was replaced within the day.) Good luck with your decision. If there’s anything I can do to help you guys let me know.
